Capito pas in april of mei aan de slag bij McLaren

Jost Capito neemt pas over enkele maanden zijn nieuwe functie bij McLaren in. De Britse renstal weekte de Duitser los bij Volkswagen voor de positie van directeur van McLaren Racing, maar Volkswagen zal hem pas vrijgeven zodra een geschikte opvolger is gevonden.

Dat kan nog wel tot eind april, begin mei duren. Capito verklaarde aan Autosport: "We wilden de aankondiging nu doen om het nieuws al naar buiten te brengen en eventuele geruchten in de kiem te smoren. Nu kan het proces om een opvolger voor mij te zoeken gestart worden."

"Ik weet niet hoeveel tijd dat gaat kosten, maar tot dat proces afgerond is en zolang ik me kan vinden in de gang van zaken zal ik mijn post nog niet verlaten. Ik ben voor Volkswagen in Monte Carlo voor de WRC-rally. Ik doe de komende drie, vier rally's, misschien wel meer."

McLaren was zich ervan bewust dat de komst van Capito even op zich kon laten wachten. Jonathan Neale vertolkt zolang de rol van directeur van McLaren Racing. Capito: "McLaren terugbrengen aan de top wordt de grootste uitdaging van mijn carrière. Gelukkig hou ik van uitdagingen."
