Berger: "Formule 1 is tegenwoordig te gepolijst"

Oud-coureur Gerhard Berger heeft getracht om de vinger op de zere plek te leggen wat betreft de moderne Formule 1. De koningsklasse van de autosport kampt met teruglopende bezoekersaantallen en dalende kijkcijfers. Volgens sommigen omdat Mercedes te oppermachtig is, maar Berger denkt dat er meer achter zit. De sport is in zijn ogen te geperfectioneerd.

Aan Auto Motor und Sport vertelde Berger: "Er zijn verschillen met de dominantie van McLaren eind jaren tachtig. Ten eerste werden de fans toen nog vermaakt door het spektakel op de baan. Ten tweede waren de races destijds veel onvoorspelbaarder. Er waren veel meer uitvallers, of men beging meer fouten. Wie komt nu nog zonder brandstof stil te staan?"

"De Formule 1 is zo perfect dat de heerschappij van één team de entertainmentwaarde veel meer aantast. Ten derde werden fouten nog afgestraft. Als je te snel door een bocht ging, belandde je in de grindbak. Tegenwoordig hebben ze grote uitloopstroken van asfalt, waardoor je zonder problemen terug kan keren. Het is te gepolijst, te gecontroleerd, te aardig en overgereguleerd."

    Volledig mee eens!
    Ik mis ook o.a. de grindbakken en het bij tanken.

    Er ploft ook haast nooit meer een motor want ze moeten tot de in oneindigheid mee gaan..

      Het niet meer ploffen van een motor komt naar mijn mening door voortschrijdende techniek en niet omdat ze vijf races mee moeten gaan.
      Grindbakken zijn afgeschaft i.v.m. de veiligheid.
      De asfaltuitloopstroken hebben het voordeel dat je als coureur eerder geneigd bent een inhaalpoging te wagen omdat als het mis gaat je een grotere kans hebt om terug te komen.
      Met het bijtanken gaat het weer om de strategie hoe iemand in de pitstraat in te halen maar levert wel spannende momentjes op.
      Ik denk eerder aan DRS afschaffen en last but not least het afschaffen van de rijdersstraffen die te kinderachtig zijn voor woorden. Het zijn racers en laat ze dan alsjeblieft racen!

    Dit is een redelijk kort stukje van het hele verhaal wat op een andere site is te lezen, maar eindelijk wel een goed onderbouwde en objective mening, die behoorlijk in de juiste richting is.
    Ik ben nog steeds van mening dat de dominantie van Mercedes niet uniek is voor de F1, dit hebben we wel vaker gezien, maar voor de rest heeft hij gewoon gelijk.
    Het is allemaal veel te gecontroleerd, coureurs moeten het veel meer zelf aanvoelen, en daarop een beslissing nemen, dat is nu te veel in handen van de pitmuur.

      ik kan me ook wel in de visie van Berger vinden, het is inderdaad niet zozeer de dominantie maar meer de dominantie icm de overige punten die hij aankaart.
      Dominantie is nooit leuk maar dat hebben we vaker gezien, dat op zich zal de sport niet écht schaden.
      Vroeger had je nog ontzag voor de coureurs in moeilijk te besturen wagens volgas door Eau Rouge met aan weerszijde van het asfalt grindbak, en klein foutje werd toen nog keihard afgestraft, dat was pas op de limiet.
      En hoe zeer ik ook fan ben van Max en zijn inhaalactie buitenom bij Nasr, een jaartje of 20/25 geleden zou hij het wel uit zn hoofd gelaten hebben buitenom in Blanchimont in te halen.
      Ook dat motor regelement zorgt ervoor dat verassingen tot het verleden behoren, met weemoed denk ik terug aan het ploffen van Fisichella's Honda blok op Spa, wat een vuurbal was dat :-)

      @Nicos: Volgens een andere site was het Mercedes seizoen 2015 “one of the most imperious in Formula 1 history”. Waaronder beste qualificaties. meeste 1-2 finishes, meeste punten, etc.

      Maar ondanks deze dominanties ben ik het volledig met je eens dat het veel te controleerd is en de voorspelbaarheid maakt het ook steeds minder leuk is om naar F1 te kijken. Vroeger zat ik al met zenuwen voor de start als de lichten nog op rood stonden. Nu weet je na bocht 1 wie van de voorspelbare mercedes boys mag winnen.

    Het probleem is dat als ze F1 weer een ruw randje willen geven, dat dit ook weer op een te gecontroleerde manier gebeurd. Er zijn te veel voorbeelden van kunstgrepen die hun doel compleet gemist hebben.

    Met Berger eens. Teveel nadruk op vleugeltjes hier en daar, drs en sparen materiaal.

    Sommige uitloopstroken mogen weer terug naar grind maar sommigen mogen blijven of combineer die dingen, eerst wat asfalt en daarna grind zodat de ergste snelheid eruit is gehaald.
