Capito vrij om 'te doen wat nodig is' bij McLaren

Jost Capito krijgt als nieuwe directeur van McLaren Racing carte blanche om de organisatie naar zijn hand te zetten en de Britse renstal terug naar de top in de Formule 1 te dirigeren. Dat deelde de huidige motorsportbaas van Volkswagen aan Autosport mede. Capito begint pas zodra er een geschikte opvolger voor hem gevonden is aan zijn werkzaamheden bij McLaren.

"Ik krijg de vrijheid om te doen wat nodig is bij McLaren", begint hij. "Op dit moment is het nogal een matrix." Een van zijn taken zal zijn om de renstal op één lijn te krijgen met motorenpartner Honda. "Je moet een dergelijke relatie goed laten functioneren. Het moet als één team aanvoelen, ongeacht op welke locatie of welke afdeling iemand werkt."

"Het is altijd een uitdaging om een team samen te laten klitten, helemaal als een deel van het team op een ander continent gevestigd is of wanneer er sprake is van cultuurverschillen. Maar ik heb eerder met Japanners gewerkt en daar bewaar ik goede herinneringen aan, dus ik heb het volste vertrouwen dat het goed komt."
