Uitstel vaststellen regels 2017 mogelijk probleem voor kleinere teams

De regels voor 2017 staan nog altijd niet vast. Dit maakt het voor kleinere teams als Force India erg lastig. In mei vorig jaar werd bekend dat de Formule 1 in 2017 drastisch op de schop gaat, maar nog altijd staan de regels voor 2017 nog niet vast. De gesprekken over de regels hebben tot dusver nog niet tot beslissingen geleid.

Volgens Otmar Szafnauer, directeur operationele zaken bij Force India, zorgt het uitstel voor mogelijke problemen bij de kleine teams: "Vertragingen maken het voor kleine teams als Force India altijd lastig. Het was mooi geweest als we eerder wisten waar we aan toe waren, wij hebben de middelen niet om lukraak te gaan ontwikkelen voor 2017. We kunnen ook geen scenario's uitwerken, zoals de grote teams dat wel doen. We moeten wachten tot het reglement vaststaat voordat we kunnen beginnen met de auto voor 2017."

In een interview met Autosport laat Szafnauer weten dat zijn team pas aan de slag kan wanneer de details van de regels voor 2017 bekend zijn: "Op het moment dat de details bekend zijn kunnen we ons gaan voorbereiden op 2017. We moeten een goede balans van onze middelen zien te vinden om zowel in 2016 als 2017 competitief te zijn." Szafnauer laat verder weten dat tijd ook een bepalende factor gaat worden voor de kleinere teams. Tegelijkertijd werken aan twee auto's is volgens Szafnauer geen optie.

"Force India heeft geen 800 mensen in dienst zoals de grote teams. We kunnen niet parallel werken aan twee auto's. We moeten goed nadenken wanneer we ons kunnen gaan richten op 2017. We kunnen ons los van de middelen ook nog niet op de auto voor 2017 richten omdat we eerst moeten uitvinden hoe competitief we in 2016 kunnen zijn. Ook dat bepaald onze strategie voor 2017." Szafnauer laat weten dat hij wel positief gestemd is dat het niet lang meer gaat duren voordat de regels voor 2017 vaststaan.

Szafnauer geeft verder aan zich zorgen te maken over de tijdswinst die de Formule 1 in 2017 wil gaan maken. Volgens geruchten zouden de auto's maar liefst vijf seconden per ronde sneller worden ten opzichte van 2016: "Het gaat niet alleen om de snelheid. De show moet ook goed blijven. Het klopt dat we ons meer moeten gaan onderscheiden qua snelheid van de GP2. Het zou mooi zijn wanneer er weer wat baanrecords gaan sneuvelen, dat is al even geleden. Hopelijk wordt het inhalen in 2017 ook verbeterd, dat is een van de belangrijkste factoren van de show."

  Ik denk dat Gompie bedoeld dat mensen van Sauber en Williams onlangs hetzelfde roepten enkel in ietwat andere bewoordingen.
  Kleine teams maken zich constant zorgen, Mercedes wil alles bij het oude zodat ze hun dominantie kunnen vasthouden, Red Bull wil veranderingen, etc etc
  Gaaap.. Voor eind februari komen ze er niet uit waarna er unanimiteit is vereist, kortom dan zal er uiteindelijk maar bitter weinig gaan veranderen voor 2017.

  Nou ja, gaan we weer, hij heeft ndeels wel gelijk. En ik ben het met Szafnauer eens, dat men de reglementen zo moet maken, dat inhalen makkelijker word (mechanische grip) en niet alleen meer snelheid.
