Force India ontfermt zich over 16-jarige Mazepin

Het team van Force India heeft Nikite Mazepin opgenomen in het opleidingsprogramma. Mazepin, een 16-jarige Rus, reed vorig jaar in het Noord-Europese Formule Renault 2.0-kampioenschap en heeft voor 2016 bij Hi-Tech Racing in het Europees Formule 3-kampioenschap getekend.

Force India zal hem aan een intensief trainingsprogramma onderwerpen en hij zal meerdere Grands Prix bijwonen namens het team. Mazepin: "Het is een ongelooflijk gevoel om me bij Force India te voegen. Dit is de grootste stap uit mijn carrière tot nu toe!"

"Ik wil Vijay Mallya en iedereen van het team bedanken voor deze mogelijkheid. Ik ben nog jong en ik heb veel te leren, dus de sturing en ervaring van Force India komen zeer van pas voor mijn ontwikkeling. Mijn doel is om ooit in de Formule 1 te racen en dit is een stap in de juiste richting."

Oksana Kosachenko, de voormalige manager van Vitaly Petrov, voorspelde in december al dat een jonge Rus op korte termijn op de Formule 1-radar zou verschijnen. De kans is groot dat ze met haar uitspraken toen al op Mazepin bij Force India doelde.

Afgaande op zijn behaalde resultaten lijkt Mazepin me iemand die hoogstens het niveau van Petrov, Aleshin en Sirotkin kan behalen.
Dus net niet goed genoeg voor de F1!
