Renault bedankt Maldonado via Twitter voor bewezen diensten

Deze week werd bekend dat Pastor Maldonado volgend jaar niet namens Renault in de Formule 1 zal uitkomen. De coureur uit Venezuela, die in 2011 bij Williams in de Formule 1 debuteerde, bleek door problemen bij zijn sponsor PDVSA niet meer aan zijn financiële verplichtingen te kunnen voldoen. Renault maakte woensdag bekend dat Magnussen de plek van Maldonado overneemt. Via Twitter neemt Renault afscheid van Maldonado, die in 2014 en 2015 voor Renault-voorganger Lotus reed.

"Pastor is ons twee jaar trouw geweest. Via deze weg willen hem bedanken en zeggen we 'tot ziens'. Pastor stond regelmatig ter discussie bij de fans en andere Formule 1-coureurs, maar wij hebben genoten van de samenwerking met Pastor. Hij is een hele vriendelijke, vrolijke en af en toe extreem grappige kerel, die heel goed in het team lag. Pastor heeft altijd het maximale eruit gehaald en we zullen hem missen", aldus het team van Renault op Twitter.

Maldonado maakte het nieuws dat hij het team zou gaan verlaten zelf wereldkundig. Kevin Magnussen liet eerder al weten te doen te hebben met Maldonado, Magnussen zat vorig jaar in een zelfde situatie bij McLaren. Maldonado's manager Nicolas Todt liet eerder deze week weten er alles aan te doen om Maldonado in 2017 terug te laten keren in de Formule 1.

  Knap schijnheilig. Pastor was loyaler naar Renault als andersom. Ik snap dat ze de muntjes hard nodig hebben, maar doe er dan niet dit soort berichten uit. Ze hebben mazzel dat Magnussen instapt want van Palmer hoeven we niets te verwachten.
