Mercedes beschouwt Honda als een bedreiging

Het team van Mercedes moet oppassen voor McLaren-Honda. Misschien nog niet voor 2016, maar in de nabije toekomst zal de renstal uit Woking een geduchte concurrent voor de 'zilverpijlen' zijn. Die gedachte deelde motorenbaas Andy Cowell met ESPN F1.

"Als we kijken naar wat Ferrari de afgelopen twaalf maanden gepresteerd heeft, dan is dat opmerkelijk", begint Cowell. "Hun vooruitgang is toe te schrijven aan de reorganisatie en hun enthousiasme. Hier in Brixworth gaat niemand ervan uit dat we ze komend seizoen wel even verslaan. Wij nemen aan dat Ferrari ons voorbij gaat en vanuit die insteek werken we aan verbeteringen. Daarnaast vormt Honda een bedreiging."

"Honda is snel ingestapt en leert voor het oog van de hele wereld. Ze zijn zeer vastberaden en hebben in McLaren een partner die ook zeer vastberaden is. Wij weten als geen ander hoe McLaren werkt met een door data gedreven aanpak, dus zij zullen grote sprongen maken. Daarnaast hebben we Renault nog, dat een eigen fabrieksteam heeft opgericht en de betrokkenheid in de Formule 1 heeft vergroot. Er zitten dus zat mooie verhalen in de pijplijn voor 2016."

    Wordt er eerlijk gezegd moe van dat Mercedes het maar "Spannend" wilt houden terwijl het niet zo is. Nu is Honda weer een bedrijging, vergeet niet dat de eerste succes auto van Honda (aka Brawn) jaren heeft geduurt en men toen zelf al was uitgestapt. McLaren was ook geen topper meer met de V6 mercedes motor. RB mogen we ook niet serieus nemen dit jaar vanwege Renault dus maar hopen dat Ferrari idd strijd voor kan leveren en een spannend middenveld met Max, die houd het voor de meeste NL'ers in ieder geval amusanter ;-)

      Ze hebben het ook niet over komend jaar, maar de jaren erna. En bij McLaren/Honda is nog veel progressie te boeken en bij Mercedes minder. Dus de kans is best wel aanwezig.
      Dit is natuurlijk ook gewoon een manier om hun eigen personeel te prikkelen om op hun toppen te presteren.

      Niekool, ik ben het met je eens ook al hebben "ze misschien" nog niet over dit jaar maar in de nabije toekomst wel dat lijkt me nogal al ruim.

    "Dat ze Manor maar in de gaten houden. Je weet maar nooit.........!!!
    Met Haas erbij heeft Mercedes er weer 2 te duchten concurenten bij."
    Ze moeten toch iets zeggen om sommigen te kunnen misleiden en om toch nog een spannend seizoen te kunnen aankondigen.
    Ze zouden beter een goeie 2de rijder naast Hamilton zetten.
    Dan zou het eventueel toch nog spannend kunnen worden.....

    Afgelopen tijd de technische fora even doorgespit, Honda's 2016 spec motor zou van hetzelfde niveau zijn als de 2015 Mercedes. Indien ze de elektrische systemen ook op orde krijgen kunnen ze toch wel in de top van het veld meedraaien. Chassis was namelijk zeker niet slecht vorig jaar en met PP aan het roer kan daar ook heel veel winst geboekt worden.
