'Huidige motorregels toegankelijker dan de V8'

Het is voor autofabrikanten makkelijker om onder de huidige motorformule met de 1.6 liter V6 turbo toe te treden tot de Formule 1 dan dat het was ten tijde van de V8 of de V10. Dat stelt Mercedes-motorenbaas Andy Cowell in gesprek met ESPN F1. De reglementen lijken zo complex, maar door de uitgebreide voorschriften is alles duidelijk afgebakend.

Cowell: "Het is niet onmogelijk voor autofabrikanten om een Formule 1-project op te starten en het is toegankelijker dan het was met de V8 of de V10. Het is makkelijker voor een bedrijf dat wereldwijd auto's verkoopt en geënt is op efficiënte technologie om momenteel voor een avontuur in de Formule 1 te kiezen, omdat de technologie die wij ontwikkelen relevant is."

"Als we terug gaan naar het jaar 2000, toen pasten de regels voor de motoren op één A4-tje. Tegenwoordig beslaan de motorreglementen achttien pagina's. Vroeger had je dagen nodig om het aantal cilinders of de omvang van de zuigers te bepalen, nu staat alles voorgeschreven. Dat maakt het makkelijker en het zou geweldig zijn als meer autofabrikanten de stap wagen."

Persoonlijk denk ik nog steeds dat deze vrijheden van interpretatie de F1 zo groot hebben gemaakt.

    Persoonlijk denk ik nog steeds dat deze vrijheden van interpretatie de F1 zo groot hebben gemaakt.
    Iedere fabrikant, ontwikkelaar of designer liet zijn verbeelding de vrije loop en de meest bizarre ontwerpen kwamen uit de pen.
    Alles voor de snelheid, geen consessies!
    Dikke, schreeuwerige motoren....
    Extreme airodynamische oplossingen....
    Ruw, luid en snel!

    Afgelopen week las ik ergens dat de F1 momenteel trots is op het feit dat ze de huidige technologie van straat auto's in hun F1 bolides gebruiken..?!?
    Waar is de tijd gebleven dat dit juist andersom was?

    Damn... ik voel me een echte azijnpisser.
    Gelukkig heb ik nog steeds hart voor deze raceklasse.
    (al heb ik de AED wel binnen handbereik tegenwoordig)

      Ik kan nog steeds kippenvel krijgen als ik op YouTube filmpjes kijk uit de periode 2000-2005 ongeveer. Heerlijk hoe die motoren jankten waarbij je het gevoel had dat ze elk moment uit elkaar konden klappen.

      De BMW V10 die in kwalificatietrim dik 21.000rpm draaide en er bijna 1.000pk uit spuugde.
      De V8's waren later een klein stapje terug, maar ook nog erg fijn om te horen.

      En toch, toch heeft ook dit tijdperk wel weer wat :)

      Eens, wat dat betreft zou meer vrijheid juist ook leuke effecten kunnen hebben op de F1. Hoe fantastisch was het geweest als er bijv. eens een auto met wankelmotor aan de start zou staan. Heerlijk geluidje produceren die dingen hoor.

      Dat klopt niet de motortechniek in de Formule 1 loopt nu straatlengtes voor op wat je in normale auto's terugziet. Ze halen nu vermogenscijfers en efficiëntie cijfers met hele bescheiden motorinhoud en verbruik waar je eerst alleen maar van kon dromen. De V8 V10's hoewel luid en spectaculair totaal niet meer relevant. Maar ik ben het met je eens dat er wel meer vrijheid mag komen met meer fuelflow en mgu-k,mgu-h vrijheid

    Nu word er gepraat over een duidelijk verhaal om toe te treden en dat alles netjes is afgebakend. Ik kan me een stuk herinneren van een tijdje geleden (ik meen ferrari) die daar in aan gaf dat alles veelste complex weggeschreven was in de regelgeving. Teams hebben tegenwoordig standaard juristen in dienst die alle veranderingen aan de bolide bekijken of deze wel rechtsgeldig zijn.....dus deze berichten staan in mijn ogen haaks op elkaar.

    In mijn optiek zegt het bovenstaande genoeg. Ze maken het zich moeilijk, al die regeltjes! ( Ja ik ben een liefhebber van de V10/V12 )

    Ik denk dat als ze het geluid van de motoren binnen de F1 weer op een voor de fans aanvaardbaar niveau kunnen krijgen, deze hele discussie in de prullenbak verdwijnt. Snelheid plus het daarbij jankende geluid van motoren doet wonderen.

      Inderdaad de nieuwe uitlaat en hopelijk het veruimen van de fuelflow voor 1000+ pk (betekend automatisch meer toeren). Zal alle kritiek deze motorformule snel doen vergeten.

    Ik schat de kans dan ook erg groot in dat wanneer Mecachrome of Asiatech mag prutsen aan de V6, de wereldtitel direct binnen bereik is.
