Smedley: "Massa van nu net zo goed als in 2008"

Williams-coureur Felipe Massa heeft niets aan kwaliteit ingeboet ten opzichte van het jaar waarin hij op een haar na de titel misliep. Dat betoogt engineer Rob Smedley tegenover Autosport. Massa waande zich in 2008 luttele seconden wereldkampioen, totdat Lewis Hamilton in de laatste bocht nog iemand passeerde en zodoende één punt meer behaalde dan de Braziliaan.

Smedley over Massa: "Hij is nu minstens net zo goed als hij toen was. Felipe heeft niets aan snelheid verloren. Hij is nu zelfs beter omdat hij over meer ervaring beschikt. In 2008 waren de banden relatief beter en was het racen anders. Het waren in feite allemaal korte sprints. De afgelopen twee jaar heeft hij geleerd om de banden beter te benutten."

"De grootste revelatie was het seizoen 2014, waarin Felipe weer mooie resultaten aaneen begon te rijgen. Valtteri Bottas is een groot talent voor de toekomst en brak langzaam maar zeker echt door, maar Massa deed niks voor hem onder. Felipe is altijd zo goed geweest, hij voelt zich hier alleen meer op zijn gemak. Hij is iemand die gewaardeerd wil worden, respect nodig heeft en wil dat er naar hem geluisterd wordt."

Heeft Smedley wellicht een keer wat anders te melden, wordt een beetje zielig? Vindt Massa meer veldvulling geworden, weinig spectaculairs op de baan.....

      Kimi rijdt rondjes om Massa. Kimi is de laatste WK bij Ferrari. Kreeg Massa niet voor elkaar....

      Kimi rijdt rondjes om Massa...juuuiisst. In 2007 werd Kimi kampioen doordat hij het geluk had dat Massa miste in 2008. In 2008 en 2009 is Kimi verslagen door Massa.

      Luckyme en M.schumi. Juiste moment moet je hebben. massa was in 2008 en 2009 de betere met 2009 wel een behoorlijk verschil qua positie van de auto toen.
      2008 had Massa behoorlijk wat pech dus nogal logisch. Hij had het meest gewonnen en met de puntenregeling van vandaag was hij kampioen geweest met hetzelfde resultaat.

      vind het best als jullie Massa niet zien als een goeie maar blijf wel realisties!

    Door het keer op keer te roepen ga ik juist steeds meer twijfelen over de kwaliteiten van Massa.

    Zoals in 2008 weet ik zo net nog niet. toen was hij meer happerig naar open plekken maaaaarr ik vind hem wel gewoon goed rijden vooral voor iemand van zijn leeftijd.

    "totdat Lewis Hamilton in de laatste bocht nog iemand passeerde"
    is nogal een understatement voor zo'n historisch moment in de F1 geschiedenis.

    Het was meer dat Hamilton een plaatsje opschoof dan dat ie iemand inhaalde. En het ging om Timo Glock die even van de baan raakte omdat als enige in de top 6 op slicks reed terwijl het begon te regenen. Het was ook niet de laatste bocht maar drie of vier bochten voor de finish.

    Dit soort morele steun is leuk voor Massa maar ook overbodig lijkt me. Dit zie je vaker als een coureur kritiek krijgt van buiten.
