Ferrari staat stil bij geboortedag van Enzo Ferrari

Het is vandaag 118 jaar geleden dat Enzo Ferrari werd geboren. Deze dag staat voor Ferrari dan ook geheel in het teken van de oprichter en de naamgever van het beroemde merk. Enzo Anselmo Ferrari werd op 18 februari 1898 geboren en overleed op 90-jarige leeftijd op 14 augustus 1988.

Ferrari heeft een mooie tijdlijn online gezet met per decennium de belangrijkste gebeurtenissen en leuke wetenswaardigheden uit het leven van Enzo Ferrari. Zo is hij pas twee dagen na zijn geboorte officieel geregistreerd. Door hevige sneeuwval was eerdere registratie niet mogelijk geweest.

Op 10-jarige leeftijd bezocht Enzo Ferrari samen met zijn broer Alfredo en hun vader voor het eerst een race, in Bologna. Het autosportvirus had hem toen te pakken. Na zelf een aantal jaar geracet te hebben richt hij in 1929 in Modena de Scuderia Ferrari op.

In 1931 beëindigt Enzo Ferrari zijn actieve loopbaan als coureur en stort hij zich volledig op het leidinggeven aan zijn eigen team. Bijna negentig jaar na de oprichting is Ferrari een van de bekendste automerken ter wereld en sowieso het bekendste Formule 1-team.

    Il Commendatore! Soms arrogant, vaak bijzonder moeilijk en eigenzinnig...maar wat heeft die man veel verwezenlijkt in zijn leven.

    Ik droom dat ik ooit met een rood kunstwerk - gesigneerd met zijn naam - zal rondrijden.

    Toen hij nog leefde was het al een deel autosportgeschiedenis. Echt een bijzondere persoon met een indrukwekkend levensverhaal. Was ooit totaal berooid en dacht er zelfs over een eind aan zn leven te maken geloof ik. Via een vriend is hij bij een autofabrikant terecht gekomen en voor het eerst achter het stuur van een racewagen. Toen werd ie door Alfa Romeo ingelijfd en Enzo wist zn maatje ook naar Alfa te halen. Enzo is een van de 3 punten van de witte driehoek achter de quadrifoglio (klavertje 4) van Corse Alfa Romeo. De anderen waren Ascari en Campari. In het begin stond het klavertje 4 op een vierkant vlak. De verdwenen punt staat symbool voor Ugo Sivocci, die overleed aan de gevolgen van een crash in een Alfa zonder quadrifoglio. Als eerbetoon aan Sivocci werd het een driehoek en is ie tot op de dag can vandaag op alle fabrieksracers van Alfa Romeo. Ugo Sivocci was de man die Ferrari aan dat baantje hielp.
    Een van de vele verhalen die er over Enzo Ferrari te vertellen zijn. Alleen daarom al vind ik het het mooiste team wat er is. De historie ervan gaat in feite terug tot de jaren 20. Uitgezonderd door tussenkomst van de 2e wereldoorlog is de naam Ferrari al onafgegebroken aanwezig in de autosport. Al bijna 100 jaar!
