Haryanto: "Zonder steun van fans niet in de F1"

Rio Haryanto is de eerste Indonesiër die het tot Formule 1-coureur heeft geschopt. Hij debuteert komend seizoen namens Manor Racing in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Gisteren testte hij voor het eerst met de MRT05. Afgezien van een spin in de ochtend ging dat redelijk.

Haryanto heeft een heel land achter zich. Op de vraag of hij dat als prettig of juist als druk ervaart, antwoordde hij: "Een beetje van beide. Zonder de steun vanuit Indonesië en van mijn fans was ik hier niet geweest. Ik ben hier om mijn werk goed te doen. Ik focus me op mijn eigen taken en probeer niet te veel aan de druk te denken."

"Het voelt goed. Het is ook het juiste moment om in de Formule 1 te stappen. Ik kijk uit naar wat er komen gaat. Het doel voor Manor Racing is om dit jaar in de middenmoot mee te draaien. We verbeteren ons elke dag en er zit nog veel meer in het vat."

      2x gereden 2x grindbak ben bang dat dit niet eens veldvulling is hoort niet in de F1 thuis ik had begrepen dat je voldoende gepresteerd moest hebben voor de F1 maar ik zie het niet in hem .
      Hier heeft die Duitser een makkie aan in het team zo zie je maar met geld is alles te koop.

      @Edward M, Je moet voor dit Seizoen in een door FIA goedgekeurde Raceklasse hebben gereden. GP2 is goedgekeurd dus helaas kunnen de Maldonado's van deze wereld nog steeds doorstromen...

    Hoop dat Rio wat moois kan laten zien dit jaar en wat punten gaat pakken. Ik vind de Manor in ieder geval de mooiste wagen om te zien en hij lijkt mij een erg sympathieke coureur.

      Tja, als de grootste 'die hard Maldonado fan' op dit forum kan ik me voorstellen dat je een nieuwe rijder wilt steunen. Ik vind het persoonlijk zeer sympathiek van je dat je keuze op Manor en Rio is gevallen...hulde!

      Haha het is niet zo dat ik nu meteen die-hard Haryanto fan wordt hoor! Ik hoop (waarschijnlijk tegen beter weten in) nog altijd dat Pastor volgend jaar weer op de grid staat en ik support natuurlijk 'onze' Max. Maar ga de verrichtingen van Rio wel met veel enthousiasme volgen.

      Ik ben in ieder geval getuige geweest van zijn crash vanmiddag. De foto's daarvan hier op de website heb ik gemaakt, want ik was de enige in de buurt met een fatsoenlijke camera. Dus ook geen officiële fotograaf in de buurt.

      Jij denkt nog steeds dat iedereen extreem daar veel achterlopen? Ga jij maar eens even naar Indonesië jongen...

      Daarnaast, kijk even naar de sociale media accounts van Haryanto en vergelijk deze eens met andere coureurs, kun je zien dat hij aardig wat populariteit heeft en dus ook een grote groep fans.
