Pirelli krijgt opdracht voor banden om te pushen

De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft bandenleverancier Pirelli geïnstrueerd om voor 2017 banden te maken waar de coureurs meer op kunnen pushen. Dat heeft BBC Sport vernomen. Pirelli heeft eerder al laten weten bereid te zijn om een betere band te leveren, maar daar zou dan wel een gedegen voorbereiding in de vorm van voldoende testdagen tegenover moeten staan.

De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant mag dit jaar twaalf dagen testen voor dat doeleinde. De bazen van de Formule 1 willen de sport opwindender maken via snellere auto's en de banden verbeteren is een van de manieren om dat te doen. Coureurs moeten volgend jaar in staat zijn om langer op de limiet te rijden met hun banden, zo heeft Pirelli van de FIA te horen gekregen.

Voor 2016 heeft Pirelli ook het een en ander aan de karakteristieken veranderd in een poging om minder voorspelbaar te maken wanneer de grip op is. Of ze in die opzet zijn geslaagd valt nog te bezien. Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton klonk niet positief. "Het is absoluut geen verbetering. De banden zijn hard en bieden me weinig grip. Ik geef de voorkeur aan de banden van vorig jaar."
