Jarno Opmeer dit seizoen actief in de Formule 4

Met Jarno Opmeer voegt zich een tweede Nederlander bij de nieuwe Nederlandse sectie van het Noord-Europese kampioenschap (NEZ) Formule 4. Opmeer stapt over uit de karts, waar hij afgelopen seizoen een revelatie bleek in de 125cc-schakelkarts. Vorige week kondigden de KNAF en MP Motorsport al aan dat KNAF Talent First-coureur Richard Verschoor zijn autosportdebuut in het SMP F4 NEZ maakt.

De 15-jarige Opmeer heeft al drie karttitels op zijn naam, wat hem het lidmaatschap van het KNAF Academy-programma bezorgde. Het talent uit 's-Gravendeel schitterde het afgelopen seizoen op de Nederlandse en Duitse kartbanen. Ook nam hij deel aan het Europees kampioenschap KFJ. Nu vindt Opmeer het tijd worden om de sprong naar de autosport te maken.

"Ik heb nog overwogen om een jaar langer in de karts te blijven", vertelt Opmeer over zijn beslissing. "Maar met Formule 4 zet ik toch meer een stap vooruit. Ik ben ook blij dat ik deze stap samen met MP Motorsport kan maken. Zij steunden me al in de karts, waardoor dit voor mij de beste keuze was."

MP Motorsport verwelkomt Opmeer met plezier in zijn gelederen. "We kennen Jarno van de kartbaan in Strijen", aldus Dick van der Wilt van MP Motorsport. "Dus het is leuk om verder met hem samen te werken. Ik denk dat Jarno een mooi eerste jaar in de autosport tegemoet kan zien."

In zijn eerste autosportjaar maakt Opmeer meteen kans op royaal prijzengeld: NEZ-hoofdsponsor SMP Bank looft 300.000 euro uit voor de kampioen en 200.000 euro voor de rookie-kampioen. Het budget voor het complete pakket is daarentegen relatief laag: 150.000 euro.

Van der Wilt vertelt wat er allemaal in dat pakket zit. "De auto staat letterlijk voor je klaar, wij verzorgen de rest: zeven raceweekenden, zeven tests, overnachtingen, overalls. Alkamel Systems, bekend van de World Series by Renault, zorgt voor livetiming en livestreaming. Het thuisfront en je sponsors kunnen je dus altijd volgen. Eigen sponsorstickers zijn mogelijk. Ook in de prijs zit de hele academy-opzet, met driver coaching van onder meer Kevin Korjus en Miki Weckström."

Ik vind het een mooi initiatief van de KNAF om taletvolle coureurs te ondersteunen.
Als ze dat prijzengeld pakken, hebben ze meteen budget voor een stapje hoger.

Krijgen ze eigenlijk ook begeleiding op het gebied van marketing en sponsors zoeken?
