Watkins Glen heeft geen directe interesse in F1

Watkins Glen kreeg deze week wat veren in de reet gestoken van Charlie Whiting. De wedstrijddirecteur van de internationale autosportbond FIA bracht voor een inspectie een bezoek aan het Amerikaanse circuit en noemde het een prachtige locatie voor een eventuele Formule 1-race.

Daarmee bracht hij Watkins Glen een beetje in verlegenheid, aangezien het circuit vooralsnog geen directe belangstelling heeft voor het organiseren van een Grand Prix. Ze reageerden dan ook als volgt: "We hebben nooit de indruk gewekt dat de Formule 1 mogelijk terugkeert naar Watkins Glen. Er zijn zat circuits met de hoogste FIA-licentie die geen Formule 1-evenement organiseren."

    Gelijk hebben ze daar in Watkins Glen. Rustig afwachten. Kijken wat er gebeurd. Hoe de onderhandelingen van andere circuits verlopen en of Bernie - of diens opvolger - eindelijk tot inzicht komt dat de kwaliteit van circuit en publiek van meer belang is dan de kwantiteit / hoogte van de fee die de kleine grijpgrage dictator momenteel gewend is te ontvangen van despoten uit het midden oosten...

      Inderdaad. De meeste circuits zijn er ook niet bepaald mooier van geworden.

      Ik juich een GP op the Glen van harte toe maar als dit ten koste gaat van het karakter van dit prachtige circuit dan liever niet.

    Ze moeten eigenlijk zorgen dat de F1 graag naar hun komt i.p.v. andersom.. dan is er misschien nog wat te onderhandelen ;)

      Inderdaad. Maar F1 rijdt nog liever in een metrotunnel dan zelf enig verlangen naar een circuit uit te spreken.

    Eens even gekeken, kende circuit niet. Ziet er mooi uit.

    Herman heeft het circuit nog niet verkr8, dus ze hoeven zich nog geen zorgen te maken :)

    Over een paar jaar hier een race houden en afwisselen met de Grand prix in Texas zou wel beter zijn voro beide partijen. Aangezien Texas al in financiele problemen zat.
