Nieuwe neus van Williams doorstaat crashtests

De nieuwe kortere neus van Williams heeft de verplichte crashtests van de internationale autosportbond FIA overleefd. Daarmee ligt de weg open voor een debuut van de neus bij de tweede Grand Prix van 2016, in Bahrein. Dat meldt Auto Motor und Sport.

Williams heeft tien tot twaalf pogingen nodig gehad om de crashtests te doorstaan, verraadde technisch directeur Pat Symonds. De nieuwe neus is slechts 85 centimeter lang. Korter mag reglementair gezien ook niet. Felipe Massa probeerde de neus in de simulator al uit.

"Het is echt een vooruitgang", betoogde de Braziliaan. Williams zal in Bahrein maar één exemplaar van de nieuwe neus, plus voorvleugel en barge boards paraat hebben. "Degene die de meeste punten mee naar huis neemt uit Australië mag ermee rijden", aldus Massa.
