GPDA: "Roep om hervormingen weloverwogen"

Rijdersvakbond GPDA mengde zich gisteren nadrukkelijk in de discussie over hoe de Formule 1 bestuurd moet worden. De coureurs hebben hun buik vol van de warrige en onnavolgbare manier waarop in de koningsklasse van de autosport beslissingen worden genomen.

GPDA-voorzitter Alexander Wurz benadrukt dat de open brief aan de leidinggevenden met de oproep tot hervormingen geen impulsieve actie is geweest. "De coureurs zijn de echte sterren en het uithangbord van de Formule 1. Naar aanleiding van verhitte discussies onder de fans en in de paddock vonden de rijders het tijd om hun collectieve mening naar voren te brengen."

"Dit was geen overhaaste reactie op het experiment met de kwalificatie. Deze verklaring is weloverwogen en lang van tevoren gepland. In Melbourne is het nogmaals besproken tijdens een speciale bijeenkomst van de GPDA. Sinds de oprichting van deze bond volgen we de meerderheid van de stemmen en dat werkt goed voor ons. In dit geval was de uitslag van de stemming duidelijk voor het delen van de zorgen van de coureurs."
