Kans dat Williams overstapt op Honda minimaal

De geruchten dat Williams na dit jaar klantenmotoren van Honda af gaat nemen berusten niet op waarheid. Met die stelling smoort Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff de verhalen in de kiem. Williams ligt ferm onder contract bij Mercedes voor de komende jaren.

Honda is momenteel nog exclusief aan McLaren verbonden, maar de Japanse autofabrikant staat ervoor open om in de toekomst meer teams van motoren te voorzien. "Zolang we geen stap vooruit zetten zal geen renstal zich bij ons melden", verklaarde Yusuke Hasegawa tegenover Laola1.

Toch wordt er druk gespeculeerd over klantenteams voor Honda. Nu dus Williams, maar Wolff verwijst dat verhaal naar het rijk der fabelen. "Nee, zij hebben tot en met 2020 een contract met Mercedes", zegt hij in Auto Bild. Ook Force India is zeker tot en met 2020 Mercedes-klant.

    tja het was Frank Williams die ooit in 1987 zei: ''En nu wil ik geen geel gezicht meer zien hier''. Ik denk dat Williams dik maar dan ook dik tevreden is met Mercedes. Ik zie Honda hun niet inhalen...we leven niet meer in de jaren 80 namelijk.

      "There is always an asian better than you" Zo zal het ook gaan bij Honda, ze geven niet op tot ze competitief zijn. Tenzij het ze teveel geld gaat kosten.

      maar waar baseren jullie dat op? De vorige Honda periode (2000-2008) viel gewoon zwaar tegen. In de jaren 80 was Honda de topdog in de F1 maar dat is allang niet meer zo. Ik zie ze dus niet zomaar op het niveau van Ferrari en Mercedes komen. Ik hoop het echter wel hoor.

      Periode 2000-2008 had Honda erg goede motoren hoor. Periode rond 1999 was de Mugen-Honda toen nog de snelste motor. In de tijd dat Honda met B.A.R alleen samen werkte was ook niet slecht. 2004 Button derde in WK, B.A.R 2e zelfs. In 2006 wonnen ze een grand prix in hun eerste jaar als Honda team. In 2007 en 2008 was het inderdaad huilen met de pet op. Maar de motor is nooit slecht geweest! Dus als iemand Mercedes kan aanpakken, is het Honda. Ben ik 100% van overtuigt. Iedereen onthoud de jaren 80 natuurlijk logisch, maar Honda heeft echt nooit slechte motoren geproduceerd!

      @VINNY je hebt op bepaalde punten gelijk echter je moet beseffen dat Honda tussen 2000 en 2008 met alle mogelijke (financiele) middelen de strijd aanging echter toch vaak net iets minder bleek te zijn, die 2-3 overwinningen wogen in ieder geval niet op tegen de torenhoge investeringen. In 1999 was de Mugen-Honda trouwens heel snel maar zeker niet de sterkste motor, ook had Mugen er een handje van om motoren te zwaar en te groot te maken dat is algemeen bekend. De weg naar de top zal voor Honda nog zwaarder worden dan in die vorige periode 2000-2008 aangezien de complexiteit van het motorenconcept is toegenomen en gezien het feit dat er andere grote fabrikanten meedoen die 2-3 jaar voorlopen op hun ontwikkeling. Ik hoop echter dat Honda het gat dicht en van mij mogen ze er zelfs voorbij, zou prachtig zijn!

    Ha, wel te voorzien natuurlijk. Een auto die het alleen op snelle banen goed doet een zwakke motor geven is ook wel een goed idee...

    Ik begrijp heel goed dat iedereen lachwekkend doet over Honda! zeker gezien hun resultaten!! maar de toekomst zal laten zien wie er gelijk heeft! persoonlijk denk ik dat Honda alles in huis heeft om een poging te wagen en het zal me niks verbazen dat ze nog wel wereldkampioen worden!!

      ik hoop dat je gelijkt krijgt maar de vorige Honda periode (2000-2008) maakten ze geen hele sterke indruk. Ik denk dat veel mensen op dit forum nog teveel terugdenken aan de Honda gloriejaren van 1985-1991 maar dat is inmiddels 30 jaar geleden gents!

      Honda zal uiteindelijk gewoon vooraan staan qua PU. Er zit daar veel geld, kennis en vastberadenheid. Als je de Japanse cultuur een beetje kent weet je dat ze zich bij Honda niet zomaar laten kennen. Ze hebben een achterstand maar als straks de tokens verdwijnen zullen er grotere stappen worden gemaakt. Helaas gaat het nu stapje voor stapje.

    Tja, dat wisten we natuurlijk allang Toto. Honda heeft volgend jaar de handen meer dan vol aan McLaren en Red Bull.. misschien Sauber er ook nog bij, als die 2017 Ferrari-motor naar Toro Rosso verhuist.
