Monza geeft hoop op Grand Prix-toekomst niet op

Monza weigert de handdoek in de ring te gooien en zich gewonnen te geven in de onderhandelingen over de toekomst van de Grand Prix van Italië. Het Italiaanse circuit in de buurt van Milaan is in bezit van een aflopend contract en de gesprekken met Bernie Ecclestone over een nieuwe overeenkomst verkeren in een impasse. Voorzichtig wordt al naar alternatieve opties als Imola of Mugello gekeken.

In Monza hebben ze de hoop op een nieuwe verbintenis voor de Formule 1-race echter nog niet opgegeven. Circuitbeheerder Sias meldt in een verklaring: "Autodrome Nazionale di Monza heeft geen officieel bericht gehad dat de onderhandelingen over een nieuw contract met FOM stuk zijn gelopen. We plaatsen daarom ons vertrouwen in Aci-voorzitter Angelo Sticchi Damiani, die er alles aan doet om te zorgen dat Monza de gastheer van de Italiaanse Grand Prix blijft."

Ecclestone had wat dat betreft goed nieuws voor Monza in Gazzetta dello Sport. In gesprek met de roze sportkrant verkondigde hij: "Ik denk dat de Grand Prix van Italië op Monza blijft. Het is een mannelijke discussie en we voeren nog steeds gesprekken. Uiteindelijk zullen we een akkoord bereiken, daar ben ik zeker van."

    ER zijn een paar circuits die behouden moeten blijven voor de F1. Daar is Monza samen met Spa 1 van.. Historie is ook belangrijk voor dit circus.

      Ik wel. Maar dat is persoonlijk. Imola is voor mij ook een circuit wat eigenlijk op de kalender hoort en moet blijven.. Helaas is men niet altijd zo aan de historiek gehecht als vele F1 fans.

      wat is er zo bijzonder aan het circuit Imola dan? stop and go circuit met veel chicanes. Ik zie nooit argumenten van jullie wat er zo fantastisch is aan het hedendaagse Imola. Het Imola van vóór 1995 ja dat was een super baantje.
