Renault weigert het seizoen 2016 af te schrijven

Het team van Renault geeft het seizoen 2016 niet nu al op. Na de overname van Lotus F1 Team is geopperd om snel de focus te verleggen naar 2017, maar daar wil racing director Frederic Vasseur niets van weten. Er zitten updates in de pijplijn voor de RS16.

Vasseur vertelde aan Ekstra Bladet: "Er zijn upgrades op komst omdat we weten dat we werk voor de boeg hebben, zowel op het gebied van de motor als met het chassis. Op dit moment moeten we ons focussen op dit seizoen om het maximale uit het pakket te persen."

"We beslissen in een later stadium over wanneer we de aandacht verschuiven naar volgend jaar. Het is belangrijk om onze mensen onder druk te houden om het meeste uit de races te halen. Om volledig voorbij te gaan aan het seizoen 2016 zou een fout zijn."

      precies, bovendien zijn we pas een race onderweg. Het seizoen is nog lang. Als men nu al de handoek in de ring gaat gooien getuigt dat niet van een wil om zich te verbeteren.

    Ik word sowieso altijd een beetje moe van dat 'huidige jaar opofferen voor komend jaar'..

    Een fabrieksteam als Renault moet gewoon minimaal meevechten voor een plaats in Q3, nu hebben ze al moeite om naar Q2 door te dringen. Renault onwaardig.

      Ik ben het met je eens, echter wist Renault deze winter al dat ze in 2016 geen potten gingen breken.
      Realistisch staan ze niet in de punten voor de meeste races.
      Wellicht een paar keer verrassen, Monaco! regenrace ergens.

      Da's begrijpelijk, maar in het geval van Lotus/Renault zijn er toch wel enkele verzachtende omstandigheden. De deal heeft heel laat in het seizoen plaatsgevonden, Lotus lag op apegapen en ze hadden een chassis op maat gemaakt voor ... een Mercedes motor. Om dan op zo'n korte termijn een nieuwe bolide klaar te stomen zonder al te dramatische toestanden is op zich al een huzarenstukje m.i. Vanaf nu kan het alleen maar bergop gaan, althans dat hoop ik.

    RBR had de pace er aardig inzitten, dus Renault moet zeker niet opgeven. Ze kunnen met de tokens nog aardige sprongen maken, dus er is genoeg mogelijk.

      Het Chassis brengt RB t.o.v. Renault wel veel meer, gat is behoorlijk, dat gaan ze niet inhalen dit jaar.
      Dat geld kan je dan beter in de ontwikkeling van volgend jaar steken.

      Inderdaad (deze race althans) was het verschil met RB groot , voor mij moeten ze dit ook niet dichten op dit moment. Het zal misschien een beetje pijnlijk zijn RB met een ( Renault) motor sneller is dan Renault team zelf . Denk wel dit verschil kleiner zal worden naargelang de race's volgen.
      Renault legt voor mij wel beter de focus nog op dit seizoen om zo veel mogelijk punten te scoren , een pak punten is een pak geld volgende jaar, iets wat elk team hard nodig heeft.

    als ik dit bericht serieus moet nemen dan snap ik het niet meer! er is slechts 1 race gereden!! en nu zou de focus moeten liggen op 2017?? dit kan gewoon niet waar zijn, een formule 1 seizoen kost handenvol geld, ik kan mij werkelijk niet voorstellen dat ze er niet alles uit willen halen al was het maar om data!! tuurlijk alle gerenommeerde teams zijn met hun development al bezig voor 2017 ! dat hoort ook zo maar om nu te stellen dat dit seizoen voorbij is gaat mij veel te ver

      Gaan jullie je focussen op 2017 i.p.v. 2016 gelet op de uitermate korte voorbereiding?
