Whiting: "Rijders hebben meer dan voldoende inspraak"

Vorig week stuurden Sebastian Vettel, Alexander Wurz en Jenson Button namens alle rijders een open brief naar de huidige besluitvormers van de Formule 1. In de brief uitten de heren zich namens alle rijders zorgelijk over de manier waarop besluiten in de Formule 1 tot stand komen. De rijders maken zich zorgen over de toekomst van de sport. Volgens Charlie Whiting, racedirecteur van de FIA, valt het allemaal wel mee en hebben de coureurs genoeg mogelijkheden tot inspraak.

"Het is niet nodig dat de coureurs zich meer gaan bemoeien met de regels. ik zou bovendien niet weten hoe we ze meer inspraak kunnen geven", aldus Whiting in een interview met Autosport. Volgens Whiting hebben de rijders tijdens de raceweekenden meer dan voldoende mogelijkheden hun zegje te doen, maar laten ze het vaak zelf afweten. Whiting noemt de coureurs zelfs 'enigzins laks'.

Whiting laat verder weten altijd de discussie aan te willen gaan met coureurs: "Ik ben blij wanneer ik met de coureurs kan praten. In Barcelona hadden we tijdens de testsessies een bijeenkomst en daar was de opkomst prima. Daarnaast hebben de coureurs altijd de mogelijkheid om via rijdersbriefings hun ongenoegen te uitten en daarnaast is er een plek aan de vergadertafel van de FIA circuitcommissie beschikbaar. Bij die laatste mogelijkheid komt helaas nooit een coureur opdagen."

Het probleem is juist dat te veel mensen met te veel verschillende belangen inspraak hebben in de sport. Dat is ook wat in de brief staat.

Heeft Charlie uberhaubt wel de brief gelezen? Zeker als een goede FIA-lacky meteen in de papier versnipperaar gepropt.

  Tja....Whiting ziet graag coureurs verschijnen op meetings waar hun stem toch wordt ondergesneeuwd. Maar op meetings waar hun stem wel invloed zou kunnen hebben ziet hij ze liever niet verschijnen. Zo lust ik er ook nog wel een paar.

  Dat dacht ik dus ook. Misschien zijn zijn uitspraken ook wel het gevolg van de gestelde vragen door een interviewer.

Dit is een dubbele ontkenning --> Het is niet nodig dat de coureurs zich niet meer gaan bemoeien met de regels.

Als je het zo opschrijft, lijkt het alsof Whiting de coureurs eigenlijk gelijk geeft. En dat doet hij volgens het artikel op Autosport dus niet.

Ik zou de zin als volgt maken: Het is niet nodig dat de coureurs zich meer gaan bemoeien met de regels. (Dus de tweede NIET weghalen.)

Wat ik me afvraag: staat in de functiebeschrijving van een race director dat hij zich moet bemoeien met de regels en wat de coureurs daarvan vinden? Of is zijn ultieme taak om te zorgen dat de races stipt op tijd en correct volgens de regels verlopen?

  Goed punt. Het feit dat coureurs nooit komen opdagen, kan ook aan hem liggen. Misschien denken ze wel: "Ach daar gaan we weer. Fijne middag Charlie. Wij gaan samen met onze engineer bekijken hoe we met al die kunstmatige toestanden en slechte banden toch nog een snelle race kunnen rijden."

Ik dacht ook dat de coureurs meer bedoelden dat het een keer afgelopen moet zijn met al die lukrake wijzigingen voor het verbeteren van "de show" dan dat ze nou zo nodig bij vergaderingen aanwezig zouden willen zijn.
