Opstappen Capelli verschaft Monza nieuwe hoop

Oud Formule 1-coureur Ivan Capelli is opgestapt als baas van Sias, het bedrijf dat het circuit van Monza beheert. Volgens Tuttosport is het vertrek van Capelli goed nieuws voor de kansen van Monza om de Grand Prix van Italië ook na dit jaar te organiseren.

Het Italiaanse renstal is in onderhandeling met Bernie Ecclestone over een nieuw contract, maar die gesprekken verliepen tot nu toe uiterst moeizaam. Autosprint bericht dat dit kwam doordat Ecclestone geen vertrouwen had in de leidinggevenden bij Sias.

"Ik heb nooit gesnapt waarom Federico Bendinelli het veld moest ruimen bij Sias. Hij was een verstandige man en we begrepen elkaar", aldus de commerciële baas van de Formule 1. Ecclestone kon niet overweg met enkele officials en wordt nu op zijn wenken bediend.

Ook de plannen om het circuit geschikt te maken voor motorraces schoten de Brit in het verkeerde keelgat. Tuttosport legt de breuk tussen Sias en Capelli uit als een poging om de onderhandelingen over de toekomst van de Grand Prix van Italië op Monza vlot te trekken.
