FIA formaliseert terugkeer naar oude kwalificatie

De World Motor Sport Council van de internationale autosportbond FIA heeft de terugkeer naar het kwalificatieformat van 2015 officieel bekrachtigd. Vanaf komend weekend in China tot en met het einde van dit seizoen is de manier van kwalificeren net zoals de voorgaande jaren.

Geen eliminatiesysteem, geen gemiddelde rondetijd, maar gewoon een kwalificatie met drie delen. Na Q1 vallen zes coureurs af en na Q2 vallen nog eens zes rijders af, waardoor er tien man overblijven om in Q3 te strijden om pole position.
