Gridpenalty voor Vettel vanwege versnellingsbakwissel

Ferrari-coureur Sebastian Vettel kende een moeizame eerste dag op het Sochi Autodrom aan de Zwarte Zee. De viervoudig wereldkampioen viel in de tweede training na een half uur stil en Ferrari bevestigt dat de versnellingsbak verwisseld moet worden. Voor Vettel betekent de bakwissel een gridstraf van vijf plaatsen.

Het probleem van Vettel in de training was van elektronische aard, het probleem in de versnellingsbak zou volgens Ferrari twee weken geleden in China al onstaan kunnen zijn, Volgens de regels moeten coureurs minimaal zes races achter elkaar met een versnellingsbak doen, dat is voor Vettel dus niet gelukt. Door zijn straf zal Vettel's beste startpositie een zesde plaats zijn.

Als men de teams qua kostenaspect vrijlaat dan zou er geen bestaansrecht van teams als Sauber, FI, Williams enzovoort zijn.
