Boullier: "2017-regels niet nadelig voor inhalen"

Eric Boullier, racing director bij McLaren-Honda, bestrijdt dat de reglementen voor 2017 ten koste gaan van de mogelijkheden om in te halen in de Formule 1. De bolides krijgen meer downforce en veel coureurs lieten weten dat dit wellicht nadelig zal zijn voor de actie op de baan.

Volgens Boullier zal dat wel meevallen. "Ik ben het niet eens met enkele uitlatingen die ik in de media heb gelezen", begint hij in El Confidencial. "De auto's zullen inderdaad meer neerwaartse druk produceren, maar de bredere banden genereren ook meer mechanische grip."

"Daardoor zal het weinig effect op de hoeveelheid inhaalacties hebben. Bovendien wordt de invloed van de voorvleugel minder groot, omdat de vloer en de diffuser een groter deel van de downforce voor hun rekening nemen. Dat biedt weer mogelijkheden voor meer inhalen."
