Britten wijzen verzoek voor uitlevering Mallya af

India heeft bot gevangen bij Groot-Brittannië met een verzoek om Force India-teambaas Vijay Mallya uit te leveren. De Britse regering heeft het verzoek afgewezen, vernam The Hindu van een woordvoerder van het Indiase ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken.

In India loopt een rechtszaak tegen Mallya. Schuldeisers verlangen miljoenen van hem na het ineen storten van zijn vliegmaatschappij Kingfisher Airlines. Ondanks herhaaldelijke oproepen is Mallya nog niet komen opdagen in de rechtbank. Daarom hoopt India op hulp van de Britten.

Het vermoeden bestaat dat Mallya zich in Groot-Brittannië bevindt. De Britse overheid onderneemt in elk geval geen stappen om hem op te speuren en uit te leveren. Hoewel zijn paspoort is ingetrokken, kan de Indiase zakenman in Groot-Brittannië verblijven omdat zijn paspoort bij aankomst nog wel geldig was.

De woordvoerder van het Indiase ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken: "In Groot-Brittannië bestaat begrip voor de ernst van de beschuldigingen aan het adres van de heer Mallya en ze zijn bereid om India te helpen. Ze hebben onze regering gevraagd om wederzijdse juridische samenwerking te overwegen."

    Mallya mag voor mijn part de bak, hij is 1 van de grootste boeven die India draagt tegenwoordig... zijn business is 1 en al linke soep sinds het begin en zijn praktijken evenmin

      Zolang de echte misdadigers nog steeds vrij rondlopen (lees: de regeringsleiders), mag Mallya voor mijn part ook lekker gaan en staan waar hij wil.

      Dit kun je zo ongeveer over iedereen zeggen die op dat niveau dusdanige aandelen bezit over de bedrijven waar we het hier over hebben. Mallya heeft naast zijn vliegmaatschappij ook andere initiatieven die niet goed gegaan zijn, en dus heeft hij het vizier op zich gericht gekregen.

    Weet iemand in hoeverre Force india in de problemen kan komen? kunnen schuldeiseers bijvoorbeeld beslag leggen om de auto's zoals ook vorig jaar met Lotus een aantal keer gebeurde?

      Nee, dit kan niet. Het team is een losse onderneming en niet een eenmanszaak oid. Dus hoofdelijk aansprakelijk is allen Mallya zelf en misschien dat hij bedrijven heeft die niet als losse rechtspersoon te boek staan, waar ze wel geld kunnen halen. Maar dat zal wel niet. Is ook niet nodig, aangezien bij Mallya persoonlijk ook genoeg te halen valt.
