Force India-baas zet talentenjacht voor Indiase coureurs op

Force India-eigenaar Vijah Mallya hoopt ooit een Indiase coureur achter het stuur van een van zijn auto's te zien. Ondanks de aanwezigheid van Karun Chandhok in de Formule 1 is Mallya van mening dat in India nog geen geschikte coureurs rondlopen. Hij gaat een talentenjacht opzetten in een poging om een Indiase topcoureur voor de toekomst te vinden.

Mallya: Laten we duidelijk zijn, autosport is in India niet zo ver gevorderd dat het coureurs oplevert die de Formule 1 kunnen halen. We hebben wel wat rijders en ik moet beslissen of ze aan mijn eisen voor Force India voldoen. Ik heb minstens één jongen een kans gegeven in onze simulator, samen met drie anderen, en Paul di Resta kwam als beste uit de bus. Het is dus niet zo dat ik oneerlijk ben of mijn ogen sluit voor Indiaas talent. We moeten jonger gaan scouten. Op een bevolking van 1,2 miljard zal vast wel ergens een Lewis Hamilton rondlopen.

Het is als zoeken van een naald in een hooiberg, maar we lanceren een nationaal programma in India om jong talent in kaart te brengen. Dat is een complexe opdracht. Diverse kartcircuits in het hele land doen mee, we organiseren de methode van inschrijving, we zorgen voor een competitieve omgeving en een competitief programma. Dan nemen we de rijdertjes met het meeste talent mee naar Europa, betalen voor ze, verzorgen hun educatieve opleiding en begeleiden ze in voorbereiding op een Formule 1-stoeltje. Daar verbinden wij ons aan.
