Hamilton: "Extreem blij met mijn pole position"

Voor Lewis Hamilton breekt langzamerhand de bewolking. De drievoudig wereldkampioen kende een slechte seizoensstart en heeft momenteel 43 punten achterstand op teamgenoot Nico Rosberg. Rosberg won tot dusver alle vier de races van het seizoen 2016.

Hamilton: "Ik ben extreem blij met deze pole position. Ik heb veel pech gehad dit seizoen en er moest wat gebeuren om weer in de positie te komen om een race te winnen. In mijn eerste rondje had ik een flink moment en dat kostte me een set banden. Mijn tweede run was fantastisch en ik wil iedereen bedanken van het team. Ik hoop morgen een probleemloze eerste ronde te hebben zodat we voor de winst kunnen gaan."
