Renault blij dat Red Bull waarschijnlijk klant blijft

Renault heeft aan de FIA laten weten dat het bereid is om Red Bull Racing ook in 2017 van motoren te voorzien. De vier motorleveranciers moeten voor 15 mei aan de FIA laten weten welke klantenteams ze gaan bedienen in 2017.

Ondanks de grote problemen die Red Bull Racing en Renault vorig jaar kenden, leveren de Fransen ook dit jaar weer aan de viervoudig wereldkampioen constructeurs. Red Bull had ook weinig keuze, aangezien de andere leveranciers niet bereid waren motoren te leveren aan Red Bull.

Bij het sluiten van de overeenkomst aan het einde van 2015 is wel overeengekomen dat de naam Renault niet door Red Bull gebruikt wordt. Red Bull gaat tegenwoordig door het leven als Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer. Het begin van de vernieuwde overeenkomst is veelbelovend. Red Bull Racing doet het veel beter dan vorig jaar en beide partijen hebben de intentie uitgesproken om met elkaar door te gaan.

Cyril Abiteboul laat in gesprek met Autosport het volgende weten: "Uiteraard zijn we blij dat we de FIA hebben kunnen laten weten dat we Red Bull Racing waarschijnlijk volgend jaar ook weer als klant hebben. Zoals ik eerder zei is er nooit de intentie geweest om met elkaar te breken. Wij moesten alleen beter werk leveren. Red Bull is een sterk team in de Formule 1 en we zijn blij dat we met een dergelijk team kunnen samenwerken. Als Red Bull tevreden is, zijn wij dat ook en hebben we alle redenen om met elkaar door te gaan."

De volgende deadline aangaande de levering van motoren dient zich aan op 1 juni. Red Bull Racing en Renault zullen dan moeten laten weten of ze met elkaar door gaan. Belangrijke pijler in het voortzetten van de samenwerking is de introductie van de B-spec van de Renault-motor tijdens de test na de Grand Prix van Spanje. Renault denkt met de upgrade flinke stappen te kunnen maken.

Wat ik begreep heeft Ferrari al een update gedaan aan de motor, en staan ze nu achter de beide Red Bull's zonder update. Dat belooft wat als het waar is als ze 4.5 tiende sneller zijn daarmee na hun update. Ik zie de gezichten al bij de grote bazen van Ferrari.

Renault heeft al een stap gemaakt. Als de B-spec inderdaad zo veel beter is (+30pk) dan is de kans groot dat Red Bull en Renault een nieuwe verbintenis aangaan. Met nog een stap zouden ze volgend jaar zomaar weer kunnen gaan voor de titels.

  RBR heeft ook eigenlijk geen keus. Ferrari en Mercedes zullen wel weer weigeren en Honda is ook geen stap vooruit.
  Voor Renault is het ook belangrijk dat ze kunnen meten waar ze staan. Win-Win
