FOTA: "Twintig Grands Prix per jaar is echt de limiet"

Een Formule 1-kalender met meer dan twintig Grands Prix is een onwenselijke situatie. Dat stelt McLaren-teambaas Martin Whitmarsh, tevens voorzitter van teamverbond FOTA. De kalender bevat dit jaar negentien races en met India en Amerika komen daar in de komende twee jaar in elk geval twee wedstrijden bij.

Whitmarsh: Twintig Grands Prix is veel naar mijn mening. Over dat aantal moet je sowieso niet heen. Twintig raceweekenden aan drie dagen per weekend betekent zestig dagen per jaar en ik denk dat ons product niet meer kan hebben. Mensen riepen altijd dat achttien races te veel was, nu roepen ze dat twintig Grands Prix te veel is. Twintig is wat mij betreft wel echt de limiet.
