Williams plukt vruchten van werkgroep pitstops

Het team van Williams is dit jaar onnavolgbaar als het gaat om pitstops. Met de snelheid van de auto wil het nog niet zo vlotten dit seizoen, maar de snelheid waarmee de Britse renstal banden verwisselt is top. In alle vijf races tot nu toe leverde Williams de snelste pitstop af. Een direct gevolg van een werkgroep die het team daarvoor oprichtte, stelt hoofdengineer Rob Smedley.

"Onze mensen doen het op dit vlak echt uitstekend", begint hij. "Het is echt een teamprestatie, ook van de hele organisatie in Grove. We hebben eindelijk begrepen dat we iets moesten doen aan onze slechte pitstops en we hebben er iets aan gedaan. De pitcrew traint vaker op stops en daar bouwen ze meer vertrouwen mee op. En meer vertrouwen betekent meer consistentie."

"We hebben de boel beter georganiseerd met een middel waar ze in de Formule 1 dol op zijn; we hebben een werkgroep voor pitstops. Dat was mijn idee, daar ben ik de schuldige voor. Steve Nielsen zit die werkgroep voor terwijl Carl Gaden zich ontfermt over de uitrusting van de pitcrew-leden. Daar plukken we momenteel de vruchten van, alles valt dit jaar op de juiste plek."

Veel is Williams er niet mee opgeschoten. De Britse renstal is voorbij gestreefd door Red Bull Racing en kan niet aanhaken bij de top drie. Een vierde plek bij de constructeurs lijkt op dit moment het hoogst haalbare voor Williams dit seizoen.

Aan zelfbevlekking geen gebrek bij Robbie.

Fijn dat ze een paar tienden sneller zijn met de pitstops dan de rest. Jammer dat die paat tienden binnen 2 rondjes weer teniet zijn gedaan door het matige chassis...

ik denk dat mclaren in de loop van het jaar nog wel een bedreiging voor williams kan gaan vormen voor williams. alleen jammer dat williams al 50 punten voor staat.

Laatste Alinea zegt denk ik wel alles. Leuk met je pitstops, zorg er maar een keer voor dat de auto het goed doet met de hardere compounds.

Als Pirelli banden gaat produceren die maar 1 ronde mee gaan, dan zouden ze wel eens voor het kampioenschap kunnen gaan.

Volgens mij is het grootste probleem van Williams de aero, daarna de coureurs en dan de pitstops. Dat laatste is nu aangepakt, goed gedaan jongens, maar 1 en 2 zijn toch wel wat belangrijker in de race om P3 in het kampioenschap lijkt me zo... dus als dat nou eens echt wordt aangepakt, dan wordt het nog wat. Nu is het een kwestie van tijd voordat ze achter McLaren en Renault gaan eindigen.....;)

Leuk dat ze de pitstops eindelijk voor elkaar hebben bij Williams, maar ze hebben er nu niets meer aan. Mercedes gaan ze daar niet mee bedreigen en ondertussen zijn ze ook door RBR en Ferrari om de oren gereden. Dankzij die snellere pitstops zijn de dus tienden van seconden eerder terug in het niemandsland waarin ze nu rondrijden. Hoera...
