Silverstone heeft plannen voor stadion-gedeelte

Het circuit van Silverstone tilt de plannen voor de ontwikkeling van een soort stadion rondom Stowe over een mogelijke overname heen. Jaguar Land Rover voert gesprekken om de baan in Northamptonshire over te nemen van de BRDC en ook Ginetta Cars-baas Lawrence Tomlinson is een gegadigde om het circuit te kopen. Totdat het zover is onderneemt Silverstone geen actie.

Maar circuitbaas Patrick Allen koestert plannen voor een stadion-gedeelte, geïnspireerd door het stadion op het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. Aan Autosport liet hij weten: "Ik ben aan het bekijken hoe we een stadion bij Stowe kunnen creëren, dus met tribunes helemaal rondom Stowe. Dan kunnen we ook dingen als de Race of Champions, World Rallycross en muziekconcerten organiseren. We missen een stadion-gedeelte."

"Daarmee kun je pas echt sfeer creëren. We hebben wel tribunes, maar die staan verspreid over een groot gebied. We hebben nu nog een stadionnetje nodig voor de sfeer. Mexico heeft dat geweldig gedaan. De coureurs vonden het ook mooi. Bij ons zou het anders zijn, het circuit voert dan niet echt door een stadion. Maar we willen uitgroeien tot een bestemming voor meer dan alleen auto- en motorsport, we willen verschillende soorten evenementen kunnen organiseren."

    Ben ik de enige die niet snapt dat die juist in Stowe wordt neergezet? Dat is toch een vrij snelle bocht en eigenlijk ook een enkele bocht. Een stadion gedeelte is toch veel leuker voor bezoekers als ze meerdere bochten in het stadion-gedeelte kunnen bekijken (Zoals Hockenheim).

      Mee eens. Om die reden snap ik bijvoorbeeld ook niet dat ze in 1999 tijdens de verbouwing op Zandvoort de pitlane niet verplaatst hebben naar het begin van het rechte stuk. Dan hadden ze een veilige pitingang kunnen creeeren langs de binnenkant van de Luyendijkbocht, meer paddockruimte erachter, en had men op de huidige plek veel meer zicht kunnen creeren op het einde van het rechte stuk, Tarzanbocht en het stuk daarna.

    Bedoelen ze hiermee dat stowe corner of het stowe circuit wat binnen het GP circuit ligt? Ik hoop dat eerste, maar ik ben wel benieuwd hoe ze dat dan gaan doen ivm uitloopstroken aangezien het een vrij snelle bocht is.

    Zou uitstekend zijn, vind het in Mexico prachtig gedaan en daar kan je dan ook gewoon concerten de avond zelf (zaterdag op zondag) nog geven, maakt het F1 spektakel allemaal wat leuker.
