Renault door upgrade optimistisch voor Canada

Het team van Renault stelde in Monaco teleur, maar dat zegt weinig tot niks over de komende Grand Prix van Canada. De verbeterde aandrijflijn die de Franse autofabrikant in het prinsdom introduceerde zal op het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve meer vruchten afwerpen. De vorige race is uit het geheugen gewist, de blik is op de toekomst gericht.

Renault-directeur Cyril Abiteboul: "Soms is het beter om vooruit te kijken en niet te veel te reflecteren op wat is geweest. Monaco was ons dit jaar niet gunstig gezind, dus het beste is om ons te focussen op Canada. We hebben meerdere redenen om optimistisch te zijn voor Montreal. Ten eerste beschikken beide rijders nu over de nieuwe motor. Bovendien is iedereen tot op het bot gemotiveerd om de dip uit Monaco recht te zetten en op een representatieve positie te racen."

Technisch directeur Nick Chester vult aan: "De verbeterde krachtbron behelst een goede stap voorwaarts en in Canada zijn beide auto's ermee uitgerust. In Monaco profiteerden we vooral van een betere rijbaarheid, terwijl Montreal een circuit is waar kracht door de lange rechte stukken en langzame bochten veel meer een rol speelt. Dat betekent dat dit de eerste echte krachtproef voor de nieuwe aandrijflijn is."

Dat chassis hebben ze nauwelijks zelf gebouwd. Het is gewoon het oude Lotus chassis met wat aanpassingen, dit wegens de late overname en dus gebrek aan tijd.

Red Bull Racing Renault waren in Canada 2015 op posite 9 (Kvyat) en 13 (Ricciardo) geëindigd, voor Renault is het veel interessanter wat Red Bull Racing dit jaar in Canada gaan doen. Dan kunnen ze echt zien wat de nieuwe power motor van Renault doet.

  Ook STR viel hier tegen. Al vond Max het wel meevallen (die na het incident Monaco plaatsen teruggezet werd). Is wat je meevallen noemt, maar met de motor van vorig jaar misschien wel.
  Ik heb een paar dagen geleden nog eens de race bekeken en was eigenlijk een boring race. MERC ver op kop en radio geleuter over wat ROS en HAM moesten doen tijdens de race. Goed dat daar paal en perk aan gegeven is. Ging eigenlijk nergens over.
  MERC coureurs werden zo meer knoppendrukkers dan racers.

  Voor Renault is het belangrijker om te zien wat hun eigen fanrieksteam doet. Bij RBR is het ook een heel groot deel aan het chassis te danken dat ze goed gaan. Hoeveel er uit het chassis wordt gehaald is de vraag en bij Renault hebben ze niet echt een geweldig chassis.

Wordt nog druk vooraan, als ze allemaal gaan doen wat ze nu beweren. Het zal allemaal wel wat spannender worden. Eerst maar eens presteren, beetje link om eerst te roepen.

Wat een gelul, ze hebben gewoon een kutchassis gebouwd. Ricciardo kan ermee naar pole knallen.

De RS16 blijft een zeepkist dus ik denk niet dat het veel zal uithalen. Toch is het mooi voor Renault dat ze de PU op niveau krijgen. Volgend jaar zal het chassis weer aardig op niveau zijn en wordt Renault in ieder geval een vaste waarde in de top 10 (hoop en denk ik).

Ik vrees dat ze in Monaco toch achterkomen dat ze nog heel wat PK missen om MERC te naderen. Eerder konden ze nog door het chassis compenseren, maar dat is in Canada juist iets minder van belang.

Het zal iedereen verbazen als er in de punten gereden gaat worden. De krachtbron is het probleem niet, dat is al aangetoond door Red Bull, maar zolang er met het oude Lotus chassis gereden wordt zal punten scoren niet gemakkelijk worden.

Renault geeft perfect aan wat een Mercedes motor in een middelmatig chassis kon betekenen.

Lotus presteerde verleden jaar een aantal races heel erg goed, het chassis op z'n hoogst middelmatig te noemen maar de sterke Mercedesmoter sleepte het chassis als een dolle over het circuit.

Dit jaar is de Lotus omgedoopt tot Renault en ligt er een Renault motor achterin, een motor die duidelijk minder power heeft dan de Mercedes waarbij Renault in de achterhoede van de grid plaats mag nemen.
