Bakoe koestert geen plannen voor een avondrace

Over minder dan twee weken is het zover, dan vindt de eerste Grand Prix in de straten van Bakoe plaats. De hoofdstad van Azerbeidzjan is klaar om de Formule 1 te verwelkomen. De eerste Formule 1-race in Bakoe voltrekt zich gewoon overdag. Een avondrace is niet aan de orde.

In elk geval nog niet. Promotor Arif Rahimov vertelde aan Championat: "Een avondrace gaat gepaard met extra kosten en meer complexe zaken aangaande de constructie van het circuit. In ons eerste jaar hebben we onze handen vol zonder dat we over kunstlicht na hoeven te denken."

"We koesteren geen specifieke plannen voor een avondrace. Misschien verandert dat ooit nog. Bakoe is 's avonds een schitterende stad, maar onze stad is 's middags ook prachtig." De Grand Prix van Europa vangt op 19 juni om 15.00 uur Nederlandse tijd aan.

Eerst maar eens afwachten of dit een 'blijvertje' is... Ben overigens wel benieuwd, op de foto's en een aantal filmpjes zag het er veel belovend uit.
