Formule 1-race in Montreal verre van 'in verval'

De Canadese Grand Prix is een van de meest populaire evenementen op de kalender, zowel voor de teams en coureurs als voor de fans. De tribunes langs het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve zitten altijd vol en Montreal omarmt de Formule 1 elk jaar. In Canada is geen sprake van afnemende interesse.

Promotor Francois Dumontier concludeerde in gesprek met La Presse: "Als promotors hebben we 21 verschillende markten. Sotsji en Abu Dhabi zijn namelijk totaal verschillend van Montreal, dat is een feit. Onze Formule 1-race is niet in verval, verre van zelfs."

Frederic Vasseur, racing director bij Renault, stelt dat de Formule 1 er als geheel niet zo slecht voor staat. "De belangstelling van het publiek is niet overal tanende. En we klagen over de dominantie van Mercedes, maar ik herinner me nog dat McLaren zestien van de zeventien races won of Nigel Mansell in veertien van de zeventien races de beste was. Dominantie is iets van alle tijden."

      @TIMROETMAN: Catalunya is een leuk circuit, maar over het algemeen zijn de races er niet zo spannend. Dan is Austin afgelopen jaren elke keer toch een stuk spannender geweest. Afgelopen race in Barcelona was ook alleen maar spannend dankzij de crash van de Mercs en het feit dat Max vooraan reed.

    Ik ben ervoor om een clausule bij de FIA/FOM en Bernie neer te leggen en laten op te nemen om een aantal races/banen een beschermde status te geven! Met beschermt bedoel ik ongeacht wat er gebeurt dat ze op de kalender blijven staan op zo'n lijst moeten in iedergeval de volgende races blijven naar mijn mening:

    - Spa belgie
    - Monza Italie
    - Silverstone Engeland
    - Montreal Canada
    - Monaco
    - Interlagos Brazilie
    - suzuka Japan
    - Melbourne Australie
    - 1 van de 2 duitse circuits ( nurberg of hockenheim boeit me niet zoveel )

    De tilke banen geef ik geen peep om dus die mogen ze van mij rouleren!
    dit is maar een idee natuurlijk ... maar t zou in iedergeval de races zoals deze in Canada veilig stellen van de grillen van Bernie! ( stel dat ie in de toekomst moet gaan kiezen tussen een oligarch met teveel poen ... of een historische race zoals spa of Monaco en voor het geld gaat ....zijn we weer een deel aan charme kwijt! )
