Derek Daly steward bij eerste GP in Azerbeidzjan

Derek Daly vertolkt komend weekend in Azerbeidzjan de rol van oud-coureur in de wedstrijdleiding voor de Grand Prix van Europa. Hij zal in Bakoe het team van stewards van de internationale autosportbond FIA van adviezen voorzien. Het is voor de Ierse Amerikaan enige tijd geleden, in Rusland 2015 deed hij dat voor het laatst.

Daly was tussen 1978 en 1982 actief in de Formule 1. Hij reed voor teams als Hesketh, Ensign, March, Tyrrell, Theodore en Williams in totaal 49 Grands Prix, waarin hij vijftien punten scoorde. Na de Formule 1 vervolgde hij zijn loopbaan in de C ART in Amerika. In 1984 liep hij bij een zwaar ongeluk op de Michigan International Speedway vele verwondingen op. Zijn zoon Conor Daly is als autocoureur actief in de IndyCar.
