Van Montreal naar Bakoe, een hele onderneming

Het Formule 1-circus heeft zich binnen een week verplaatst van Montreal naar Bakoe. Gezien de grote afstand niet de meest logische combinatie voor back-to-back races, maar de koningsklasse van de autosport is niets te gek. Voor de teams betekende het een grote logistieke uitdaging om alles van de ene naar de andere locatie te transporteren.

Gerard O'Reilly, logistiek manager bij Red Bull Racing, zegt op RedBullRacing.com: "Het grootste probleem is om de vracht van Montreal naar Bakoe te krijgen. Het is een lange vlucht en bovendien loopt Bakoe acht uur voor op Montreal, dus we verliezen veel tijd tijdens de reis. Daarom wilden we zondag rond middernacht alles in Montreal ingepakt hebben, om de vracht maandagmiddag in een vliegtuig laden, dat op dinsdag in Bakoe arriveerde."

"Een gedeelte van onze vracht, wat per boot vervoerd kon worden, hebben we rechtstreeks vanuit Sotsji verscheept, voornamelijk materiaal om de garage op te bouwen. Twee man zijn vorige week donderdag al vanuit Engeland naar Bakoe gevlogen om afgelopen weekend in Bakoe een begin te maken. Dat is inmiddels een standaard procedure. Bij iedere verre 'back-to-back' sturen we mensen vooruit naar de volgende locatie."

"Wat ons personeel betreft zijn er een paar na Canada voor een paar dagen rust naar Engeland teruggekeerd. Maar de rest is maandag in een charter naar Bakoe gestapt. We zijn dinsdagochtend om 8.30 uur aangekomen, zijn voor een douche naar het hotel gegaan en daarna meteen naar het circuit. Dat was met een klein groep van zes man, om te zien hoe het ervoor stond, zoals bijvoorbeeld de aanleg van de IT-systemen."

"Bij een Europese race is de garage dinsdagmiddag operationeel en kan iedereen woensdagochtend rond 9.00 uur beginnen. In Bakoe zal dat niet veel anders zijn. Om 6.00 uur zet een crew van twintig man de puntjes op de i, voordat de rest komt. Daarna zijn het een gewone woensdag en donderdag om de auto's op te bouwen."

"Het gaat zwaar worden, iedereen zal last hebben van een jetlag. Het valt niet mee om een tijdsverschil van acht uur te overbruggen in zo'n korte tijd, dat is voor iedereen een uitdaging. Maar uiteindelijk moet het gewoon gebeuren en krijgen we het voor elkaar. Hopelijk vragen we ons donderdag af waarover we ons zo druk hebben gemaakt."

Na lang meelezen, toch maar is geregistreerd om speciaal op jou te reageren :)

Ik zie deze back-to-back enkel als een manier waarop ze WEC/le-mans dwars kunnen zitten. Ik kan me namelijk niet voorstellen dat Ecclestone het echt leuk vind dat Hulkenberg vorig jaar gewonnen had. Back-to-back gebeu... [Lees verder]

ze zullen wel dispensatie voor de inklaringen hebben gehad, want normaal is dat in dat soort landen een echte crime wat dagen of vaker weken kan duren.

logistiek gezien zou het meer verantwoord zijn om de GP te verplaatsen naar het rijtje Mexico/USA, aan het einde van het jaar..

Ik kan me namelijk niet voorstellen dat Ecclestone het echt leuk vind dat Hulkenberg vorig jaar gewonnen had. Back-to-back gebeurde volgens mij nog nooit intercontinentaal (oost-west, niet noord-zuid met dezelfde tijdzone), uit mijn hoofd zeg ik dat dit het eerste seizoen is waarbij dat zo is. Spanje - Monaco back-to-back was vele malen logischer geweest. Net zoals alle andere europese races dit jaar. volgens mij allemaal back-to-back behalve die races.

  verschil is niet zo heel groot. Pure transporttijd, wat toch per charter vlucht gaat (mag ik tenminste aannemen) is slechts uren meer vanuit Canada, zeker geen dagen. Natuurlijk is het wel wat krapper door a) die paar uur extra transporttijd - gokje 12 uur extra - plus natuurlijk een uurtje of 8 tijdsverschil wat nu tegen werkt. Dan kom ik op hooguit een etmaal verlies. Is niet zo heel schokkend toch?
