F1 kan met zuiver geweten racen in Azerbeidzjan

De Formule 1 hoeft zich niks aan te trekken van mensenrechtenorganisaties die schreeuwen om een statement over de situatie in Azerbeidzjan, waar dit weekend voor het eerst een Grand Prix plaats vindt. Dat stelt Bernie Ecclestone in een reactie. Op de vraag of de Formule 1 met een zuiver geweten kan racen in Bakoe, antwoordde hij: "Absoluut, honderd procent."

Hij vervolgt: "Zodra iemand me uit kan leggen wat de mensenrechten precies inhouden, dan kunnen we kijken hoe, waar en wanneer we die toepassen. Weet iemand wat de rechten van de mens zijn? Neem bijvoorbeeld corruptie. Stel dat we niet meer zouden racen in landen waar corruptie plaats vindt, waar kunnen we dan nog racen? De Azerbeidzjaanse autoriteiten hebben me verzekerd dat ze alle kwesties in de gaten houden."

Azerbeidzjan heeft een zevenjarig contract met de Formule 1 gesloten, plus opties voor verlenging. Ecclestone: "Ze hebben geweldig werk geleverd. Toen ik voor het eerst opperde om de oude en de nieuwe stad in elkaar over te laten lopen, werd ik voor gek verklaard. En kijk nu eens, het is toch aardig gelukt. Ik denk dat de kans dat ze die zeven jaar volmaken groter is dan de kans dat ik het nog zeven jaar volhoud."

      Tja, in ieder geval realistisch. Nu hij dat heeft uitgesproken is het misschien ook aan de tijd dat ie naar een opvolger zoekt. Dat zou veel onzekerheid weg nemen.

    Tja... het draait allemaal uiteindelijk om geld. Ik houd e niet van dat de F1 dit soort landen bezoekt. De mensenrechten in China zijn ook niet altijd even best. Geldt ook voor Rusland. Maar ja, het is nu eenmaal zo jammer genoeg. Als Bernie een race in Noord Korea kan krijgen doet hij daar ook nog aan mee.

      tuurlijk, elke sport draait om geld geld en geld. daarnaast om kijkers / liefhebbers te winnen moet je wel naar zulke landen toegaan. ook al weet je van te voren dat het niet helemaal zuivere soep is.

      zolang ze mensen nog niet uitbuiten om een circuit in elkaar te flansen zoals met de nieuwe stadions voor het WK in Dubai dan zou het wel goed moeten zijn.. sotsie is natuurlijk wel een ander verhaal met betrekking to het voormalig olympisch stadion (vermoed ik dan weer...)

    Bernie kent slechts het recht van één mens, namelijk zijn eigen recht om schandalig veel geld te vragen voor het mogen organiseren van een F1-race. De rest interesseert hem geen biet.
