De dag van de eerste overwinning van Jim Clark

Het is vandaag exact 54 jaar geleden dat de legendarische Jim Clark zijn eerste zege in de Formule 1 boekte. De Schot won in 1962 de Grand Prix van België op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps. Het was tevens de eerste zege voor de Lotus 25 en Graham Hill belandde voor het eerst op het podium. Carel Godin de Beaufort eindigde in die race als zevende, wat toen nog geen punten opleverde.

Ik mag dan wel in 1994 geboren zijn, van wat ik allemaal gelezen en gezien heb (en dat is veel) is hij in mijn ogen de beste coureur ooit. Ik snap zeker dat dit raar is om te horen van iemand die 3 decennia later geboren is, en je kan moeilijk beoordelen over verschillende decennia, maar vooral h... [Lees verder]

      Mijn eerste held was Jacky Stewart. Jim Clark was net voor mijn tijd (ik ben van 1962). Ik heb later wel begrepen dat hij de Senna van zijn tijd was en nog steeds bij de grootsten hoort.

      Ook mijn eerste held (natuurlijk!!!). Het zag er bij hem gemakkelijk uit en dat lijkt bij de meeste toppers zo te zijn.
      Die Lotus 25 was en is nog steeds een beauty van een auto. Hij is er altijd met de Historische GP en alleen daarvoor ga ik er al heen en laat alle emoties weer door me heen gaan, prachtig!!

    Als je het aan mij vraagt blijft Clark een van de beste, zoniet de beste ooit. Wat een coureur!

      SunTzu, ik vind het moeilijk om coureurs uit verschillende periodes met elkaar te vergelijken. Als je ziet hoe sommige topcoureurs er vroeger op los leefden met veel drank en vrouwen dan denk ik dat als je het huidige veld F1 coureurs in de jaren zestig/zeventig terug zou zetten ze het héél goed doen t.o.v. de rijders uit die tijd. Gelukkig kan dat niet en blijft iedere periode zijn charme houden!

      Helemaal mee eens, goed vergelijken blijft onmogelijk. Ik kijk dan altijd maar op gevoel naar het pure talent. En daar had Clark erg veel van in bezit.

      Jim Clark@ ik denk het juist niet. F1 racen is zoveel veiliger geworden heden ten dage met alle ruime uitloopstroken. Ook het fysieke gedeelte was behoorlijk heftig zonder stuur en rembekrachtiging. Daarmee lag ook in elke bocht het gevaar. Een heftig en vaak dodelijk ongeval lag elke race weer op de loer. Ik denk dat deze generatie coureurs daar een behoorlijk probleem mee zouden hebben gehad.

    Het winnen met 5 minuten verschil tov van de #2 en de rest van het veld lappen

    Bijna elke race winnen waarin hij niet uitviel in de Lotus, met bizar veel Grand Slams en wins voor het aantal races dat hij deed

    Het onbesef over waarom de rest niet zo snel was als hij

    Ook als je op F1 metric kijkt, die puur op statistiek gebaseerd is, zie je pas hoe ongelofelijk goed Clark was (daar komt hij ook op #1)

    Anyhow, mijn stukje over, brand me nu maar af omdat ik pas 21 ben :p

    Max heeft qua rust en benadering van het racen meer weg van Jim Clark als van Senna of schumacher.

    Zijn verdedigen tov Rosberg zag er zo kinderlijk makkelijk uit.
    Max is nog jong en acteert al op het hoogste niveau, toen Jim daar kwam was hij nagenoeg foutloos.

    Het zou mij niet verbazen dat sir Jackie Stewart nog voor het eind van het jaar deze vergelijking maakt.
