ACI gaat vol voor Italiaanse Grand Prix op Monza

De Automobile Club d'Italia, kortweg ACI, acht de kans dat de Grand Prix van Italië verhuist naar Imola nihil. Angelo Sticchi Damiani, voorzitter van de ACI, sprak bij de FIA Sport Conference in Turijn de intentie uit om het evenement op Monza te houden. Het is een kwestie van de laatste details afhandelen en dan kan het contract met de Formule 1 verlengd worden.

Sticchi Damiani: "Volgens een nieuwe Italiaanse financiële wet, begin dit jaar goedgekeurd, moet de Italiaanse Grand Prix op Monza plaatsvinden en niet op Imola. De ACI is vanaf volgend jaar direct betrokken bij de organisatie van de Grand Prix en die zal geschieden op Monza, niet op Imola. De ACI neemt dan de rol van organisator over van de Automobile Club Milan en dat is revolutionair."

"De onderhandelingen met Bernie Ecclestone zijn moeizaam verlopen. Het is voor het eerst in de geschiedenis dat het organiseren van een Grand Prix gepaard gaat met hoge kosten en een financiële last op Italië legt. Met dank aan de steun van de regio Lombardije waren we in staat om in februari de onderhandelingen te openen. Hopelijk komt daar nog een nationale sponsor bij."

"In Monte Carlo bereikten we op veel punten een akkoord over een nieuw contract. Er zijn nog wat plooien die gladgestreken moeten worden, maar ik durf wel te zeggen dat we dicht bij een nieuwe overeenkomst zijn. Dit ondanks enkele acties die de onderhandelingen geen goed gedaan en in sommige gevallen zelfs geschaad hebben."

Puur alleen al voor die arrogante houding van Monza en de ACI zou de F1 naar Imola moeten gaan. Een wet wijzigen waardoor je 1 partij het alleen recht geeft is in mijn ogen ook tegen de Europese regels.

  Persoonlijk vind ik Imola leuk qua historie, maar qua baan en omliggende infra is het bijna net zo'n groot drama als Zandvoort.

Lekker belangrijk wat Europa wil maar ik zou het niet erg vinden als ze naar Imola verhuizen. Mijn ideaalbeeld is gewoon Monza als GP van Italie en Imola als GP van Europa !!!

Ik ken het circuit niet maar wat is Imola voor circuit? met welk circuit kan ik het vergelijken op de kalender?

  Met geen enkel circuit op de kalender, die zijn er allemaal al af gehaald en dat is ook de reden dat Imola er af is. Leuk voor F3 en GT racerij, maar hoger moet het niveau daar ook niet worden.

Blah blah. Wederom hetzelfde verhaal uit Italië. Ik hoor nu al maanden dat er nog maar een paar kleine details weggewerkt moeten worden, maar kennelijk zijn die kleine details groter dan verwacht. Ze worden immers telkens aangehaald. Het zal wel om geld gaan. Met Ecclestone is dat immers altijd het geval.
