Mercedes gelukkig met rijders die elkaar pushen

Het team van Mercedes is niet van plan om in te grijpen in het duel tussen teamgenoten Lewis Hamilton en Nico Rosberg. Zolang de twee elkaar niet van de baan rossen heeft de Duitse renstal vrede met een pittig gevecht, zolang de fatsoensnormen maar in acht worden genomen.

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff: "Ons pakket is duidelijk competitiever dan ooit en we hebben gezien dat onze rijders tot aan de limiet en er soms overheen pushen. Dit is ook wat wij van hen verlangen. Het gevaar van gemakzucht ligt in deze situatie op de loer."

"Het is makkelijk om te denken dat we de teugels wel wat kunnen laten vieren. Onze rijders verhinderen dat. Ze pushen zichzelf, elkaar en het hele team. We accepteren dat dit af en toe in zware weekenden zal resulteren, maar het is goed voor ons en goed voor de sport."
