Bari smeedt plannen voor een Grand Prix in 2020

De Italiaanse stad Bari wil de Formule 1 naar zich toe halen. FM Communications Group heeft de plannen tijdens het Grand Prix-weekend in Monte Carlo aan Bernie Ecclestone overhandigd, melden Automoto.it en Il Giornale. Vanaf 2020 moet er een Grand Prix in Bari plaatsvinden.

De Italiaanse stad was van 1947 tot en met 1956 al gastheer van een race en het bedachte circuit gaat gedeeltelijk over het parkoers van destijds. De baan door de straten van Bari voert deels langs het water en de initiatiefnemers hebben onder meer drijvende tribunes en paddock in gedachten.

De kosten die met de organisatie van een Grand Prix in Bari gemoeid zijn, bedragen zo'n 200 miljoen euro. En dat is alleen voor de eerste editie in 2020. Fabio Montecalvo van FM Communications overziet het project en zakenlui uit Qatar zouden het initiatief voor een race in Bari steunen.
