De dag van de eerste winst in F1 van Mercedes

Het is vandaag exact 62 jaar geleden dat Mercedes voor het eerst zegevierde in de Formule 1. Juan Manuel Fangio schonk de 'zilverpijlen' op 4 juli 1954 de overwinning in de Grand Prix van Frankrijk in Reims. Het betrof de eerste race van de Argentijn voor Mercedes, hij was tussentijds overgestapt van Maserati naar de Duitse renstal. Fangio geldt met vijf wereldtitels nog altijd als een van de allergrootste coureurs uit de geschiedenis van de Formule 1.
