Ericsson: "Dat was een zeer zware crash"

Sauber-coureur Marcus Ericsson miste de kwalificatie op Silverstone vanwege een zeer zware crash tijdens de derde vrije training in Stowe. De Zweed ging te wijd en crashte zeer hard de bandenstapels in. Door de impact van de crash kwam het stuur in de auto van Ericsson los. Ericsson moest na het ongeval naar het ziekenhuis voor diverse medische checks, maar laat weten zich goed te voelen.

"Dit was waarschijnlijk de zwaarste crash uit mijn loopbaan, Ik ging wijd in Stowe en ik denk dat het astroturf nog wat nat was. Hierdoor verloor ik de auto en crashte hard in de bandenstapels. Gelukkig kon ik zelf uitstappen, maar de marshalls achtten het beter dat ik naar het ziekenhuis zou gaan. In het ziekenhuis ben ik onderzocht en daar bleek alles in orde", aldus Ericsson.

Ondanks het feit dat Ericsson zich weer helemaal goed voelt is het nog niet zeker of hij ook mag starten. Morgenvroeg wordt Ericsson opnieuw medisch gekeurd op het circuit. Wanneer de doktoren groen licht aan Ericsson om te starten dan zal de Zweed uit de pits gaan starten.
