Ecclestone: "Clashes tussen Mercedes-coureurs goed voor Formule 1"

De rivaliteit tussen beide Mercedes-coureurs is goed voor de Formule 1, aldus Bernie Ecclestone. Nico Rosberg en Lewis Hamilton kwamen dit jaar al regelmatig met elkaar in aanraking op het circuit, met Spanje en Oostenrijk als voornaamste dieptepunten voor het Mercedes-team. Dat de coureurs elkaar tot op het scherpst van de snede bestrijden is beter dan de dominantie van Mercedes in 2014 en 2015.

Mercedes is nog steeds sterk, maar de zeges zijn minder overtuigend in 2014 en 2015. In een interview op de officiële website van Formule 1, F1.com, laat Ecclestone het volgende weten: "Veel mensen denken dat Mercedes eenvoudig wint. Dat is soms ook zo, maar met crashende coureurs zorgt het voor positieve publiciteit. Het is goed dat Mercedes haar coureurs laat racen, dat is positief voor het merk."

Ecclestone laat verder weten dat Mercedes dit jaar motoren had moeten leveren aan Red Bull Racing om de competitie nog spannender te maken. Volgens hem is de soap rondom de motoren eind vorig jaar bij beide Red Bull-teams een 'schandaal'.

    Red Bull heeft met de Renault motoren het beste alternatief lijkt me.
    Hopelijk krijgt Mercedes de deksel op zijn neus in 2017 -2020 en kan RB een hele lange neus trekken naar Mercedes en Ferrari voor het weigeren van het leveren van krachtbronnen. Als ik het voor het zeggen zou hebben bij RB zouden Mercedes en Ferrari nooit meer iets "krijgen" van mij.

    Als ik ome Bernie goed begrijp wil hij liever, net als bij de banden, 1 vaste motorenleverancier in de f1 (mercedes)?

    Toto wilt niets liever dan teamorders. Onder druk van enkele andere die wel weten wat racen mooi maakt is dat gelukkig nog niet het geval.
    Maar het feit dat het 'laten racen' als iets bijzonders wordt gezien is al fout genoeg.

    Ondanks dat ik voor Ferrari ben, weten we allemaal hoe slecht dat voor de sport kan zijn als we kijken naar bv de periode Schumacher en Barrichello.

    In de laatste paar races een teamgenoot voorlaten wordt dan ook een gebaar van de ene coureur aan de andere. Dan is het mooi om te zien. Als een teambaas in de 1e helft van het seizoen teamorders gebruikt is dat echt te slecht voor woorden.

      Tja, zolang het om de centjes gaat die uitgedeeld worden aan het einde van het seizoen, zal elk team wat in de positie is om het constructeurs kampioenschap te winnen kiezen voor team orders.

      Scheelt nogal een behoorlijke duit of je alles zelf moet betalen, of de "opbrengst" van vorig seizoen in kan zetten voor ontwikkeling enz. Des te meer je in het vorige seizoen verdiend heb, des te minder hoef je zelf te betalen. En laat geld nu net bijna het belangrijkste zijn in de F1.
