Force India focust zich op 2017

Force India heeft een solide vijfde plaats weten te bemachtigen in het constructeursklassement. Hoewel het verleidelijk is om extra updates door te voeren die Force India kan helpen het team van Williams - dat 19 punten voorligt - te verslaan, zegt teambaas Vijay Mallya dat het 'onmogelijk' is om de updates uit te voeren wegens de uitdaging en de mogelijkheden van volgend seizoen.

"Het was inderdaad een lastige beslissing", vertelt Mallya aan de officiële F1-website. "Je bent altijd geneigd om constant te updaten zodat je auto beter wordt, maar je kunt je toekomst niet in gevaar brengen. 2017 biedt een unieke kans, omdat het niet zomaar aansluit op dit seizoen. We moeten nu extra tijd en middelen in de auto voor volgend seizoen steken."

Force India bracht voor de Grand Prix van Silverstone wel een updatepakket mee. Een nieuwe voorvleugel en nieuwe instellingen voor de achtervleugel en ophanging passeerden de revue. Volgens Mallya worden de onderdelen nog altijd verbeterd, maar is het testen in de windtunnel voor 2016 klaar. De focus voor de windtunnel ligt nu bij de auto voor 2017.

"Williams pakken is vanzelfsprekend het doel voor de rest van het seizoen", vertelt Mallya. "We liggen nu 19 punten achter, en die afstand is te overbruggen als je kijkt naar wat we hebben weten te bereiken op Silverstone. Natuurlijk hadden we een beter resultaat van Oostenrijk gewild, maar we moeten kijken naar wat er is en niet naar wat er had kunnen zijn."

De Indiase magnaat vindt het ook belangrijk dat het team zich niet blindstaart op stijgen in het kampioenschap, Toro Rosso heeft zich namelijk ook gedurende het seizoen verbeterd. "Het is niet meer vanzelfsprekend dat Toro Rosso laag in de eindstand van de race eindigt. Sterker nog, ze rijden erg goede races."

"Het is een kwestie van oppassen. Wij finishten soms voor hen, maar zij finishten ook soms voor ons. We moeten alert blijven", voegt Mallya toe.

ik denk niet dat ze het dan veel beter doen dan dit jaar.

  Nee maar als ze zich niet focussen op 2017 doen ze het wellicht slechter dan dit jaar. Het is een continu proces en FI heeft niet de middelen die de top 3 teams wel hebben.

  Dat betekent dat je het grootste gedeelte van ontwerpers etc. vraagt om zich bezig te houden met de auto van 2017, en niet met de upgrades van 2016.

Ik vrees dat de FI mannen Williams nog wel voorbij gaan dit jaar.
Wat ik er van zie rijdt die Perez foutloos, Hulkenberg vind ik steeds vaker tegenvallen.

  Perez doet het dit jaar vorral in de races beter dan de Hulk. In de Quali is het vaak omgekeerd, maar daar koop je helaas niets voor als je het in de race niet om kan zetten. Hulk heeft wel een paar keer pech gehad maar Perez doet het ook gewoon erg goed en is er telkens goed bij als het erom gaat. Ik vind hem ook sympathiek. De Hulk ook, maar die is op een gegeven moment blijven hangen en lijkt de motivatie een beetje kwijt.

Ik val in herhaling maar ik blijf dit een prachtig team vinden, sowieso mijn favoriete subtop/middenmoot team met flamboyante teambaas.

  Team vind ik zelf niet zo prachtig, heb er weinig mee. Vindt de auto wel mooi en Perez presteert snaar strak. Zolang ze mooi 5de blijven bij de constructeurs zal ik het allemaal toejuichen ;-)

  Vind Force India ook een mooie toevoeging op de grid, dat ze hun rijders keuze vaak maken op talent en niet op budget siert hen enorm. Fisichella op P1 in Spa was een heel mooi moment en zeer gegund ook.
