Renault gaat Formule Renault 2.0-talenten ondersteunen

Terwijl het seizoen 2016 nog bezig is, heeft Renault een aantal grote wijzigingen aan de Formule Renault 2.0-klasse aangekondigd. Zo zal de Eurocup volgend jaar een uitgebreidere kalender rijden.

De kalender wordt uitgebreid naar tien raceweekends, die twee of drie races per weekend gaan bevatten. Ook zal de Eurocup Formule Renault 2.0 voor het eerst een raceweekend hebben tijdens de Grand Prix van Monaco, wat de coureurs een mooie gelegenheid geeft zich te bewijzen voor de Formule 1-teams.

De belangrijkste aanpassing zit hem niet in de races, maar in de prijs die Renault klaarlegt aan het eind van het seizoen. Voorheen kreeg de kampioen in de Eurocup een budget van 500.000 euro om te besteden in de Formule Renault 3.5, maar die klasse valt inmiddels niet meer onder de vlag van Renault. Daarom gaat de Franse fabrikant de kampioen plus een ander talent uit de klasse opnemen in het opleidingsprogramma. Tevens zullen deze twee rijders financieel ondersteund worden om hun carrière te kunnen vervolgen.
