Kaltenborn doet geen uitspraken over achtergrond kopers Sauber

Monisha Kaltenborn weigert uitspraken te doen over de achtergrond van de kopers van Sauber. Daarmee laat ze de geruchten over een link tussen de kopers en rijder Marcus Ericsson bestaan.

Woensdag werd het Zwitserse team overgenomen door de landgenoten van Longbow Finance. Oprichter Peter Sauber kan hierdoor van zijn pensioen gaan genieten, en Longbow's Peter Picci verklaart tegen SportsMole blij te zijn om Sauber uit de brand te helpen. "Als een Zwitsers bedrijf zijn we blij om de toekomst van een Zwitsers team in een enorm gespecialiseerde en innovatieve industrie te verzekeren."

De Zwitserse krant Blick meldt echter dat Longbow Finance ondersteund wordt door het Zweedse bedrijf Tetra Laval. Deze multinational is ook verantwoordelijk voor de financiering van de carrière van Sauber-coureur Marcus Ericsson. Kaltenborn vertelde de krant echter dat ze 'geen uitspraken doet over de achtergrond van de kopers'. Ook doet ze geen uitspraken over het bedrag dat gemoeid is met de aankoop van het team.

Kaltenborn is wel blij dat er een oplossing gevonden is. "Natuurlijk ben ik erg opgelucht dat we een oplossing hebben. Dit is een van mijn beste dagen in de rol van teambaas. We moeten als bedrijf nu stabiliseren en stap voor stap vooruitgang boeken. Een belangrijk doel is om zo snel mogelijk een competitieve auto te hebben, maar we verwachten geen grote sprongen dit seizoen. De uitdagingen blijven groot, maar nu zijn het tenminste positieve uitdagingen."

Uitspraken over de toekomst van Ericsson bij Sauber waren ook niet te ontlokken. Kaltenborn: "We gaan de komende weken alles analyseren. Voor coureurs hebben altijd maar contracten voor een seizoen klaarliggen."

Het komt mij allemaal wat schimmig over.

Zou me in ieder geval niks verbazen als Sauber alsnog failliet gaat en dat uiteindelijk schuldeisers de dupe worden van deze overname en de overname alleen gebruikt is om vermogen veilig te stellen.

Natuurlijk hoop ik dat Sauber volgend jaar gewoon op de grid staat, maar ik ga daar niet van uit.

  Ik denk dat het iets te maken heeft met de exacte stroom waar ze geen uitspraken over mag doen, omdat een fout in een klein hoekje zit.
  
  Longbow is weliswaar de financier, maar in de berichtgeving heeft iedereen het over deze Picci als de CEO. Echter schijnt de man die achter alles staat ene Dennis Jönsson te zijn die de CEO is van TetraPak. Boven TetraPak staat Tetra Laval en daarboven staat Longbow, maar aangezien dit een investeringsmaatschappij is, is dat dus niet in organisatorisch opzicht.
  
  Formeel mag dat derhalve niet gesteld worden, en dat is waarom Kaltenborn daar niets over kan zeggen. Je ziet het Ericsson in de persconferentie van vandaag eigenlijk ook zeggen. Ze vragen hem of Longbow gelinkt is aan zijn sponsor TetraPak, waarop hij stelt dat hij dit niet weet. Dus zo knip en klaar is het allemaal niet als het gaat om of die achtergrond goed te duiden is.
  
  Wat ik denk: Jönsson heeft met Picci gesproken en samen hebben ze besloten Sauber over te nemen. Picci is CEO van Longbow en heeft dus de beslissingsmacht. Echter is het overnemen van een F1-team niet iets dat je verantwoord kan doen. Derhalve kun je het niet verkopen als een commercieel verantwoorde investering totdat het hele plan in stijgers staat.
  
  Pas als ze dit uitgedacht hebben, presenteren ze het en vertellen ze wat ze precies van plan zijn.
