Imola schrijft een nieuw hoofdstuk in de saga over de organisatie van de Italiaanse Grand Prix door naar de rechter te stappen. Op die manier probeert Imola de organisatie zeker te stellen.

Bernie Ecclestone heeft eerder deze week een deal gesloten met Imola voor de organisatie, maar er ontbreekt nog een handtekening van de Italiaanse autosportbond ACI. De voormalige host van de Grand Prix van San Marino heeft daardoor nog geen zekerheid over de race. De ACI claimt dat het een exclusief recht heeft om een Grand Prix op Monza te ondersteunen.

De Gazzetta die Parma publiceerde op woensdag een statement van de organisatie van Imola dat er een rechtszaak begonnen is om de komende vijf Grand Prix' in Italië te kunnen organiseren. Imola zegt in mei een contract getekend te hebben met 'het Londense kantoor van de baas van de Formule 1, Bernie Ecclestone'. Het statement zegt: "Nog belangrijker, eenzelfde voorstel aan Monza werd geweigerd." Imola spant de rechtszaak aan tegen de ACI, voor het weigeren van medewerking en het ondersteunen van een Grand Prix op Imola.

De chef van het Italiaanse Olympische comité, Giovanni Malago, zei woensdag dat er snel een aanbod gedaan wordt. "De ACI, die de onderhandelingen leidt, wil heel graag dat de race op Monza gehouden wordt. Ik weet niet of er nog andere bruikbare opties zijn. Ik hoop dat er snel positief en concluderend nieuws komt."

  Ja, kan je zeggen. Toch was Bernie vrij duidelijk met zijn verklaring en contract voor Imola.
  Het contract zou pas definitief worden als de Italiaanse autosportbond ermee akkoord zou gaan. Deze zijn echter van mening dat de Italiaanse GP F1 op Monzo gehouden dient te worden en niet op Imola. Zij zijn nu met man en macht bezig de problemen op te lossen zodat er niets in de weg staat voor de race op Monza.

  Bernie is echt de meest gewiekste zakenman die ik ooit heb gezien. De voorwaarden waaronder hij Imola de hoop heeft gegeven en waarmee hij de volledige verantwoordelijkheid over het voortbestaan van de Italiaanse Grand Prix bij de ACI neer legt is ronduit een schurkenstreek te noemen.
  De Formule 1 wereld leeft op door het bericht terug te kunnen gaan naar Imola als alles op de manier gaat hoe Bernie het hebben wilt. Dit terwijl de ACI Monza als venue wilt hebben en dus alles in het werk stelt om Monza op de kalender te houden. Dit terwijl de lokale regering Monza tegen werkt, de financien er niet zijn en er upgrades aan het circuit moeten plaats vinden om uberhaupt nog aanspraak te kunnen maken op de Grand Prix. Ondertussen als dit plan van de ACI faalt, moet Imola de fee betalen aan het FOM om de Grand Prix te mogen houden. Dat geld schijnt er volgens Joe Saward nog helemaal niet te zijn. En als dit allemaal gebeurd, dan hebben wij als fan een uitdaging. Want dan zitten wij zonder Italiaanse Grand Prix, heeft Bernie niets fout gedaan want hij heeft immers Imola een kans gegeven en Monza al meerdere jaren gewaarschuwd, is de ACI de boosdoener en kun je er donder op zeggen dat dit een staartje gaat krijgen in landelijke politieke zin (iets met Ferrari, belangen en politiek). Uiteindelijk zal de Grand Prix dan heus wel terug keren en het FOM daarmee een beter contract in de wacht slepen. Monza zal uiteindelijk (met de nieuwe chicane) een deal afsluiten en over drie jaar weet iedereen dat het hele Imola bericht een spelletje van ome Bernie was.
  Wie Bernie ooit ook zal opvolgen, niemand zal ooit zo goed in zaken doen zijn als hij. Wat een held hoe hij dingen kan manipuleren.

Zo slim weer van Ecclestone. Door de deal met Imola te sluiten, dwingt hij Monza akkoord te gaan met zijn voorwaarden. Hij weet op voorhand al dat ze daarom nooit naar Imola zullen gaan, want dat accepteert de achterban van Monza nooit, dus zijn onderhandelpositie t.o.v. Monza wordt sterker. Gevolg is dat de gevraagde prijs toch wordt betaald en snel ook, en Ecclestone zonder gezichtsverlies Imola kan bedanken voor hun aanbod en voor het extra pressiemiddel richting Monza.
