Force India sluit slecht weekend af met verwarring bij pitstops

Force India wil de Grand Prix van Duitsland snel vergeten en doorgaan naar de volgende race, nadat verwarring bij de pitstops de kansen op punten tijdens de race om zeep hielpen. Het Indiase team kende al een slechte kwalificatie en in de race ging het niet veel beter.

Nadat Adrian Sutil en Vitantonio Liuzzi in de eerste ronde met elkaar in aanraking kwamen, moesten beide coureurs naar de pits voor reparaties. Daarbij kregen Sutil en Liuzzi elkaars banden op de auto geschroefd, waarna ze nog een extra stop moesten maken. Uiteindelijk finishte Liuzzi als zestiende, gevolgd door Sutil als zeventiende.

"We hadden een strategie bedacht waarbij ik naar de pits zou komen na de eerste ronde als ik geen posities had gewonnen. Hierbij zou ik dan meteen overstappen naar de harde banden", vertelde Sutil. "Het was een goed plan en omdat ik zover achteraan moest starten had ik toch niks te verliezen, maar er ontstond wat verwarring bij de pitstops."

"Tonio had over de radio gemeld dat hij naar binnen zou komen voor een nieuwe voorvleugel en we kwamen op hetzelfde moment binnen voor onze stops. Daarbij werden onze bandensets door elkaar gegooid en moest ik opnieuw binnenkomen voor de goede set banden."
