Pat Symonds: "Vrije bandenkeuze voor 2017 betekent voordeel voor grote teams"

Vanaf volgend jaar gaan de regels in de Formule 1 drastisch op de schop met als doel de fans meer spektakel te bieden. De auto's worden naar verwachting een paar seconden sneller en de banden worden een stuk breder. Red Bull, Ferrari en Mercedes halen binnenkort hun 2015-bolides van stal om de nieuwe banden van Pirelli te testen. De overige teams krijgen die mogelijkheid niet, waardoor er een mogelijk voordeel ontstaat voor de grote teams. Pat Symonds, technisch directeur van Williams roept op de vrije bandenkeuze per coureur voor 2017 te verbannen om te zorgen voor meer gelijkheid.

Symonds denkt dat een standaard aantal banden van ieder compound per team gelijk moet worden getrokken: "Als kleiner team heeft Williams een probleem aangaande de banden voor volgend jaar, misschien is het een probleem wel groter als velen denken. De huidige regels met betrekking tot de banden zorgen voor een grote diversiteit aan tactieken en dat maakt het racen beter. Voor volgend jaar gaat die regel niet op, omdat wij rond kerst al banden moeten kiezen waar we nog geen meter op hebben gereden. Wij moeten op de gok een keuze maken, terwijl Red Bull, Mercedes en Ferrari dat op basis van data kunnen doen die ze vanaf augustus gaan verzamelen."

Volgens Symonds is de oplossing om de vrije bandenkeuze te beperken tijdens het hele seizoen of een deel van het seizoen zodat alle teams eerlijke kansen hebben: "Het is belangrijk dat we het probleem met elkaar bespreken en dat we de vrije bandenkeuze misschien wel beperken om iedereen een gelijke kans te geven. Als we niets doen hebben Red Bull, Mercedes en Ferrari in het nieuwe seizoen een flink voordeel ten opzichte van de andere teams."

Ferrari, McLaren en Red Bull testen op 1 en 2 augustus twee dagen met de nieuwe compounds. Voorwaarde is dat ze dat doen met een bolide uit 2015 of ouder.

Dat is dus NIET waar... de data moet aan alle teams ter beschikking worden gesteld en daarmee kan ook Pat Symonds zich voorbereiden op een afgewogen keuze.

  Alleen hebben ze dan geen ervaring met het afstellen van de auto op de nieuwe banden, terwijl de andere teams dat wel hebben. Die weten dus hoe hun auto reageert op die band en kunnen zelfs hun nieuwe auto daar op aanpassen.

  Nee, dat weten ze niet, want ze krijgen niet van pirelli te horen welke type band er gemonteerd is.

  Natuurlijk wel Dutchtrickle, die teams komen niet uit een ei! die weten precies na een paar rondjes welk type band eronder ligt.

  ehm ze rijden met aangepaste versie van de 2015 auto, die zal niet veel overeenkomsten hebbenmet de 2017.
  de enige overeenkomst zal de downforce zijn.

Williams heeft er zelf voor gekozen om die banden niet te testen, dus eigenlijk hebben ze geen recht om hierover te klagen.

Het probleem is alleen dat de teams opdraaien voor de bandentests en dus alleen de rijkere teams mee doen. Eigenlijk zouden de tests door Pirelli of de FIA betaald moeten worden zodat iedereen mee zou kunnen doen.

  wat veel beter zou zijn.
  Pirelli wil graag banden leveren:
  * ze kopen een f1 bolide.
  * ze contracteren een 2 oud F1 correur's
  * huren een track
  * gaan testen.
  
  band is ontwikkeld
  alle teams gaan naar de pré season test en mogen 3 dagen alle banden uit testen op de nieuwe wagen feedback geven voor verbeteringen.
  pirrelli heeft dan data van alle auto's en weet waar de banden tot in staat zijn en alle teams weet wat ze te wachten staat.
  pirrelli kan dan nog de laatste wijzigen door voeren voor de laatste pré season test en klaar is kees alle teams hebben de test gegevens van de pirelli wagen en van hun eigen auto.
  
  hier zou vanuit de fia wel tegenover moeten staan dat ze minimaal 5 jaar gebruik blijven maken van deze banden waar bij Pirelli wel verbeteringen door mag voeren.
